Lost my e4c's. Thinking about the SE530's.

Please give me your input.

But I've got to be honest with you guys, i really don't give a fuck about the cool headphones your brother/best friend/priest told you about.

Looking for responses from people who aren't fucking idiots.

IDfuckingjew, this is not a thread for you.

Assume you're not using an amp on them or anything? Open/closed back?

My vote would be AKG K701s or Senns...maybe Grado SR80/125s...

SE530's can be had from amazon for about 250 (at least a month and a half ago) they have terrific all around sound. Tad bigger and heavier than I like, but you deal with it because of how great they sound.

I'm personally using the Phonak PFE's right now and they are about the best (overall) headphone I have used in a VERY long time. I should clarify "overall" they sound great, are VERY light, easy on the ears as far as comfort and fit under a helmet with ease (flush actually tad inside of the ear for the whole driver) They don't get as low as the 530's and need to be turned up louder to have the same volume (if that makes any sense, they are less efficient and if you unplug the PFE's and plug in the 530's you would be like WOAH...too loud)

Honestly, when people ask about my Phonak's I tell them that, imo, the only way to get a better in-ear is to buy the 530's. Phonak's are 137 shipped iirc.

Was hoping you would reply. I get you on efficiency.

Having used both. Dealing with them day to day, cost no object... which do you prefer? How would you compare the PFE's to the e4c's?

Hard question actually. Sound...I prefer the 530's, but marginally. Overall, the PFE's. I'm active, riding, working out moving around, they just sit better for me. Again its the fit that makes them so great. I could literally wear them for an entire day without causing any pain.

I had the E2 (hrrmm C's or G's I cannot remember) but not the e4's I had the SCL4 (sucked ass) and e3c and the se110. The PFE's are far better than all of those.

Shure's have a better ability to block out sound though.

If you do go PFE, the first couple days worth of playing is good, but not great. The bass response really starts to tune in about 12-18 hours into it.

Do they have any tips like the black foam shure ones? For the price its pretty hard to turn them down. I'd rather spend that money on a camera. I think i'm going to pull the trigger. Now i just need someone to buy this stupid 360.

Yes, full pack of assorted tips and they also have filters that you can put in to adjust the hi and low end. I haven't taken my default ones out, so I cannot give you any details.

I'm not much of a camera guy but being that my wife is an avid photographer I've gained a bit of knowledge on the topic. Not to mention spent a ton of cash getting her everything she wanted for it LOL

Canon G10. Seems like the best i can do without getting SLR like bulk.

I'm really good friends with a lady who takes photos for bands like shinedown so i'm going to have her run me back through photo editing.

Nice camera.

If you get decent at editing, get a wacom. Even if you just get a very small one, it will make your editing faster and 10X the quality.

I'm assuming those are the pads?

I may check one out. Used one and hated it though. Everytime i lifted the mouse on the pad it returned to the center of the screen.

Get the Phonak Audeo PFE's...

Don't think anything can touch them unless you spend x2 the price or more...

They are extremely accurate, have great response and I love the high end. You can choose the filters too...

I'm thinking about getting some Large Comply foams for them for even more isolation. I recommend the complys btw ;)...

I now use an external USB DAC with headphone amp out... made me really fall in love with the PFE's...

As I said before, Shure's do sound richer with less power, but the PFE fit so much better and are way easier to use in almost any situation.

Sitting around, I do love the 530's

Well what are some good USB DACs? Maybe amplification is the problem.

pl8er
05-01-2009, 12:35 AM
Phonak took a welcome modular approach with the Audéo PFE’s sound signature. They provide two varieties of acoustic filters and a filter changing tool with the phones. One kind of filter (white) gives a more midrange-centric signature, the other one (black) is more of a loudness-contour kind of sound presentation, boosting bass and treble a bit. It might not be as sophisticated as the Sleek SA6’s tweakability, but it gets the job done – and the difference between the filters is audible, to a certain extent.

May want to look into a pro audio DAC? Like a Presonus Firebox or M-Audio...I'm probably picking up a M-Audio Solo in a week or so, I just need a DAC that's 24/96K capable and the Creative stuff is just junk.

I think I'll go the Benchmark route eventually, I hear too many good things about them :)

Everything here is the truth.

If you are electronically savvy, check out head-fi and get some instructions and parts...then assemble :D I haven't done it, but I hear it is complex but the results are well worth it.

Yeah, the headphone part has been solved, he went with Phonak PFE's and still may get a set of Shure 530's

He is now looking for a DAC as the only real downfall to the Phonak is that they are inefficient.
