I have what is called a non-union compound fracture of my humerous (sp?) bone. I broke it about 15 years ago and have had a few surgeries with the latest one coming up.

Right now I have extremely limited motion and strength in it and no one can seem to tell me if it will get to the point where I can start pushing a little weight to get strength back or not.

Anyone here ever have a fucked up break and recovered to train on it again?

Running is fun but I would like to put on a little muscle and get big like Deerhunt.

Nice! Yeah the fucking arm was fine for years and just started acting up and it kind of sucks because now I can't do anything with it until I go in for surgery.

Just kind of getting pumped about getting it done and hopefully being able to train a little as well as finally riding my bike again and doing some other shit that you can't do being all fucked up.

They say it will take almost a full year to heal which is why I am trying to get in ASAP so that next summer it will be all good.

I will see if I can get some pics of mine, I have the xrays but not sure how good it will come out on a camera.

A friend and i were out riding dirtbikes on thursday. he went through a wash and when he came up the other side there was a hole that you could not see. he indoed in to the hole and the bike upside down standing straight up, on top of him, pinning him into the dirt. he shatterd both bones in his forearm, right below the elbow into about 15 pieces. had surgery friday afternoon. when he gets copys of his xrays i will try and poast them. good times

Word I have about $5 in metal (1 rod and about 7 screws) and it cost me about 50k also for a weeks stay in the hospital.

Sad state of healthcare indeed, I am just thankfully I had it during all of my surgeries would suck to loose everything if I could not pay back the crooked hospitals.

Woo health care!
That shit's free as a mug.

I had a 3 day stay in the ICU, a week and a half in the hospital doing mad tests, cost me $0.00. The actual cost was something like $15K a day.

Toasted, you need to see a doctor for that question and may require physical therapy. Weight training does increase the strength and density of bones. So gradual increased resistance(starting low weight high rep) training may help you out. Also you said your range of motion is limited. As with resistance training, you need a properly designed and implemented stretching/flexibility program.

Most importantly though you need to see the proper health care physician.

It is a break now basically it 'healed' with scar tissue between the break so they need to go in, break it again, clean the tissue, do bone graph, put another plate and screws in and then I go through physical therapy.

Basically they have told me it will be 'better' but don't know how much (obviously) I am just wondering if anyone with more than a simple break has been able to recover and use it as much as they were before without issues.

I have no nerve or muscle damage as of now so I am hoping they do a nice clean surgery and it stays that way which will help my recovery.

Just kind of pissed because it is starting to get nice out and all kinds of shit to do usually (if you have a good arm)

Ahh shitty man. You should be feeling a lot better after physical therapy. After thats done I would get clearance and guidelines from your doctor to start a weight training program. If you have the cash hire a reputable personal trainer if you think you'd need guidance and motivation in the gym. If you have any questions just ask. And junior on the boards is a nice guy usually willing to help and he has more experience than I do.

Never had a bone break but seperated my right pectoral from my sternum. It rolled up in knots all the way up my shoulder. It took like 400 sutures to reattach it. Now its like 35 percent smaller than my left and where they went through my nipple I lost pigmentation lol. I did this while training and I am no weaker than I was.

Thanks man, yeah motivation is not an issue for me it just kind of sucks wondering 'what' it will be like and figured some other may have had some fucked up breaks before.

I will definitely be hiring a personal trainer for a while to get the ball rolling correctly to ensure I don't fuck anything else up.

You should get a personal trainer that is also performs rehabilitations from dependencies.

You could kill two birds with one stone.

Good idea did not think of this, I can probably ask about it when I go to rehab.

Like I said I don't want to be big at all I just want to gain some strength and be able to do some weight training even if it is minimal.

Once you're going through that re-healing process make sure you get over the RDA recommended protein intake. An inured body requires more protein intake. An injured body is going to release an abnormal amount of protein destroying hormones. They come from the pituitary and adrenal glands.
Ever hear you're supposed to eat before and after a tattoo?

My dad currently has a non union break of the tibia and fibia, and the shit has to suck. He's currently under the care of the best orthopedic surgeon in Texas.

I was 16 at the time. So, does it still count as riding their coat tails?

Do you not know how insurance works?

Yes. You pay a company X amount per week, paycheck, month, annually, yearly, etc. depending on the plan, and in return, they will pay for a set list of medical things, such as hospital visit, doctor's appointment, psychologist appointment, etc.
And seeing how you're paying a company money for a service, no one else directly pays for it. It works off the idea that some people won't use it, and they get profit that way.

Did your fucking head fall off?

Nah. My stomach ulcers perforated and I lost a good percentage of my blood and slipped into a Coma.
