Overkill? I usually lay in bed and watch movies from my computer, but this 22" screen isn't really as big as I'd like it to be. Would it be a pain in the arse browsing the web, writing papers, etc? I found a decent deal for one on craigslist and may jump on it.

I used a 32 LCD for 2 years as my monitor. Not quite 42, but it served me well. HTPC was teh way to go.

Is there any real difference in quality of picture using a TV over a monitor? I have two 19" Viewsonics now that are only about a year old but could probably sell them to cover some of the price of a 32" which would look badass sitting on my desk.
Only thing is though I would probably miss not having two monitors as I use it more than I ever thought I would, usually show on one while forum on another.. Thanks to live thread it has also made my life a bit easier at least here.

I thought double 19's where the best it could get. I ahve bigger ones now, but regardless, I would take two 19's over any single screen.
Monitors > TV screens though when it comes to computing. I don't know the techincal reason, but TV's don't render as well. They are not fast enough or some shit.
We had to get a special 56" flat panle for our lounge room because a regular flat panel would have sucked balls when using it as a monitor.

Just for reference, mine was setup as a TV first with a laptop hooked to it.
Bluetooth mouse and keyboard from 8ft away FTW.

I have two monitors at work. I'd rather have my two 16s than one 32.

Plasma should work fine, i believe. LCD would be ideal.

Alright cool. I'm going to call tomorrow and see about picking it up. Here is the ad http://bloomington.craigslist.org/ele/1049926378.html
Also, says they're willing to take $300 for it. Yay?

Thats a really low resolution to be using as a monitor IMO. But for watching movies it should be just fine. 300 is cheap as hell too.

Damn. Most of the reviews I've read aren't very good... but then again all of those people used it as a TV instead of a computer monitor. Wonder if that'll have any difference

Really? So everything will just be huge and I won't be able to see much at all? I also found this out about it
"852 x 480 pixel resolution for high-quality images; multiscanning PC monitor support up to 1280 x 1024 (SXGA) resolution "
Does that mean it will be able to use 1280 x 1024 if it's used for my comp?

I was really ok with the one I had before, but I saw this one for a good deal so I picked it up. I think I'm just going to pick up a DVD player and use it as a regular tv for my room and go back to my computer monitor.
As I'm typing this, I feel silly. People outside are probably wondering why I'm sitting so close to the tv.

mount it on the wall, use it as a TV. if the roomie only uses his as a TV you may try to see if his has a higher resolution (if its an lcd it may) then sell it to him for 50 as an upgrade, he gets a bigger TV, you get a higher resolution monitor and 50 (or a million if you can) dollars.

Just depends on placement. My media center monitor is a good distance away from the couch. So it works very well. I have wireless and I can play games, get online or just watch hulu and such.

I'm thinking about picking up one of the USB monitor thingies to add another monitor for my wife. She could actually use 3. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200203
