Now I know if I go out and buy a copy of The Dark Knight it is going to be a blu ray CD that was filmed with the highest quality possible.

If I go out and get Batman Returns (The one from the 90's) on Blu Ray is the quality really only going to be as good as say and unconverting DVD player?

I only ask because it does not seem possible to bump up quality like that when coming from old media and if it is not then basically it is just a big scam and you might as well buy the DVD version for $10 cheaper over Blu Ray.

I believe that the media is the limitating factor, not the original filming as much.

When you watch Gone With the Wind on DVD, is the quality not better than on VHS?

What ^^^ said.

The actual recording is the same/similar but the media is what determines how the quailty is when veiwing it at home.

The original source is what matters when comparing HD films against each other; when comparing against formats, the format is what matters. Old 35mm films have all the resolution necessary to do 1920x1080; the only question is one of the quality of the actual film itself, since it is likely decades old and been copied repeatedly. Generally speaking, the HD versions look much better than the VHS versions regardless, but when comparing HD vs HD, the newer content generally looks better.

I will try reading this again not high and see if I understand it more.. So is better but its not?

I found that a widescreen DVDs are typically 852x480 which I was surprised about so I am guessing yeah if 35mm film has what is considered to be a much better picture than that then you are technically getting a better picture if 35mm even though not a digital format is considered to have a much better resolution than even that.

I read a couple things here that helps but I really still don't get it.. Are they still taping in 35mm for movies or are they using digital?

At worst it was the only half that was relevant to his question.
