First time I have seen a BMW motorcycle that did not look overly retarded.

BMW has finally pulled the wraps off its new S 1000 RR superbike, and let's just say we're anything but disappointed. First, the most important bits: 193 horsepower at 13,000 RPM, 82.5 lb-ft of torque at 9,750 RPM, 455.3 pounds with a full tank of gas. For those keeping track – which is probably just about anyone interested enough to read this post – those statistics are enough to give the big Beemer the most horsepower and best power-to-weight ratio of all literbikes intended for public consumption.

Technophiles and anyone else wanting to post the best lap times possible will also be pleased to know that the S 1000 RR will be available with factory ABS and an extremely advanced traction control system. There's also an HP Gearshift Assistant that will allow for full-power clutchless upshifts.

Surely the most controversial element of the bike's otherwise conventional styling will be the asymmetrical headlights, which are the only immediately noticeable link to the rest of BMW's motorcycle lineup. Expect U.S. sales to begin early in 2010 for what's expected to be a rather attractive price. Want to know more? Click past the break to see a video of the bike in action and BMW's official press release.

I will never own one but should still be badass, they should have labeled it 'M' something though.

it amazes me that these bikes can get to that rpm and still be perfectly fine. at 13,000 rpm on a 4 stroke motor each spark plug is firing 54 times a second...amazing

It's about damn time. Well built but got are those fucking things usually ugly. I like the asymetrical headlight design.

i believe its like a high/low beam. one puts out a wider shorter beam and the other puts out a narrower, farther beam.

Probably. But most things having to do with automobiles are symmetrical, short of the interior, which is still pretty linearly symmetrical. I mean, I'd like it more if the second light was a bit different (the circular one.) Just a little more like the other side, but not the same.

You wouldn't notice unless the bike was turned off. Primary light always stays on and would be decently bright, you wouldn't really be looking right into it. But yeah, second is a hi-beam. Most of the bikes have two (usually the same design) but only one on for normal riding and both for better viewing, night-time, or "hi, i'm a motorcycle, move the fuck over"

I like this bike. I think they are going to try to capture some of Ducati's market share. Reminds me of a 1098R with its traction control and such. Although the R is around 40k iirc

Still pretty sexy if you ask me (better than the BMW)

*ponders* No pics up on google of the 1198 yet, so here is what it will replace when it makes the debut.

Wow, looks like a center air intake...finally someone gets smart with this. But then it's totally ruined with the turn signals that stick straight out. It's the first thing people change (minus me LOL) to cut down on drag a bit. Market research BMW, that is all I'm saying.

Or put them in the side mirrors.

I think that bike looks pretty nice. by the numbers listed it should be pretty competitive in the 1000cc class except for the price I'm sure.
