First listen through (heard the know your enemy song and liked that) hated the rest of the album kinda skipping through it. Totally pissed because I was hoping for a return of Green Day with some great stuff.

Listened a second time but let it run...liked it WAY more. It isn't an album of singles for the radio (they have one). The rest are longer "anthem" like songs. 21st century breakdown for instance starts off with this piano and guitar mixture that switches it up about 2 minutes into harder guitar then opens to some halfway political heavily enthusiastic vocals from Billie.

Overall, damn good album. Just not a quick fix kinda album. You either have to like anthems and let single songs run, or have time for the whole cd. Other than that, it may not be liked.

I suppose when they were popular I listened to rap.

Now I listen to classic rock.

Green Day used to be good, then they became all whiney about the country and the government.

My wife likes the old Green Day and I got stuck going to a few of their concerts. Most of the shit from the 90's and earlier the bearable to listen to but everything in the last 10 years fucking sucks listening to them whine and cry about political BS.

Which is a very interesting comment and imo, exactly right. When they started off, they were supposed to be "punk rock" so they should have been all anti-gov't and anti-establishment. Instead they went mainstream selling millions of records and funded through a corporation (totally not punk). Now that they have sold millions, made millions, they are trying to go back to the punk roots. Now it just mainly sounds artsy or emo. So the point of the music is somewhat lost. Hard to be anti-establishment when you live in a multi-million dollar home that is funded by the man LOL.

Oh well :P The cd is still pretty good.

Let me guess. You're not a big fan of U2 either.

On the contrary I think they have evolved into something better and more intelligent. Dookie was pure crap.

i never cared much for Green Day, they had a few decent songs here and there, but for the most part i always thought they were lame. they seemed to think they were way more punk then they were. gap punk FTL

It's Sony's "my first punk band" formula. I do agree with you, but still think they are a good listen from time to time. Well, except for dookie.

I am into it all of it and take each for what it is. I know it isn't real punk but still appreciate and listen to it.

Dookie was the first CD I ever owned, along with Pinkerton by Weezer.

The old Green Day stuff Ive always liked because thats what I grew up listening to. The 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours was my favorite CD of theirs. Good stuff.

This. They have turned into a group of whiny pop stars... I dont like their new sound. Dookie was fantastic.
