I made a thread about this awhile back, but i'm also in the market. I have one of the larger dealerships looking for my car right now actually.

I want an 08 or 07 Lancer GTS Less than 25,000 miles, prefer the navi already there and paddle shifting.

Good luck finding your car!

A4 is a great car, huge upkeep costs though. Buddy of mine at work has an A6 and it was well over a grand for brakes to be done.

Why buy an American car? They will all be going out of business soon. All the American cars are made in Mexico or Canada anyway. Wanna buy American? Buy Honda or Toyota. They are made on this soil.

No, brokers suck my balls. I tried one when I was looking for a house. That fag never once showed me anything I had asked him to find. SO, I found one without him.

He calls me up one day, I say fuck off, I found a house, and he says, well, give me their number. I'll buy it cheaper, and then you can buy it from me for the original price. I told him he was a queer loving pedophile, go get a real job, and hung up.

Then you were doing it wrong. Brokers are helpful if you understand that they don't make the entire process their job. You are the boss, you control the situation and make them understand your end-goal. They mess up once, get them back in line, they mess up again, get yourself a new broker.

I think you are getting a little defensive, not bashing you at all man, just saying that if you have someone who is being paid by you (through commission) and you are not getting results, you are not communicating properly.

If you would have purchased the land as well, then it would have made more sense. Mobile homes do not normally have a very good (if any) resale value.

Seriously here, I want to know why you think I got fucked. No flaming, name calling, or anything. He didn't get a dime of money from me, all he did was waste his time showing me crap I didn't want.

I'm taking it you haven't been here very long. I'm not about name calling or insulting. I just keep it real. You already answered the question as well. Time my friend. I actually choose many daily activities based on it. Because my time is just that valuable. If I can buy product A for 10 bucks more but saves me 20 minutes, its worth it for me to buy product A.

Also, I look at things from a higher perspective. You got screwed because you had a resource that you were not able to develop into an actual benefit. He more than likely had contacts, deals, not to market homes, etc etc. You didn't tap into this and basically just wasted time. If you would have harness the potential, you could have easily gained a bigger house, cheaper, and still paid his commission. *shrug*

pl8er
06-01-2009, 09:09 PM
Every situation you are in is just an unrealized potential possibility (say that 3 times fast lol). It just depends on how you address the situation. I know that sounds almost lame or maybe something a motivational speaker would say.

I guess looking at your situation, you got a house for half price. Which means that you purchased a property for at least the minimum they wanted to sell it for. So you walked away happy, and they got at least the bare amount they wanted to sell it for (or you must assume). If you walked away happy and they walked away paid, then its pretty much a win-win. Now, saying that, did you for at least one second think to yourself "man, if I got this for 12k, I wonder if I could have gotten it for 11,500 or even 10?" Most people do. It's that unrealized potential that is there. What if you would have pushed on *shrug* That is all I was saying.

Well if the land is truly 12X the double wide, had you considered selling off a portion of the land in exchange for a double wide? Then it would have cost you nothing but some spare space.

Unfortunately, I could not shrink the land. It's already as small as I'm allowed to sub divide.

Given the fact that the broker was a kid, maybe 20 years old, drove an Avalanche with 24's, and was a prick, I feel good that I did it on my own. We gave him 3 weeks. Each week he would call us with what he had to offer. Each time he called, or we met in person, he didn't show us a SINGLE THING that we had asked for. We were very specific, giving a year range, price range, age range, the whole nine yards. Each time we met/he called, it was either too big, out of our price range, or too old. I should have just gone to a different broker, but I prefer to do things myself. I always have, and always will. I though I may give someone a chance to prove me wrong, but it didn't work out.

As far as the price goes, they had it listed at 15K. We did push the price. We offered them 12 cash, so given the appraisal and the price we paid, I feel fairly good about the deal. It's only a place to live until we build a stick built house, so essentially a starter home.

Hey, I'm always up to try new things and learn new things as well. I gave it a shot on that go around. However, given my past experience with brokers, agents, and salesmen, I don't think I'll be going that route again.

I wasted none of my time. He failed to come through with anything we were even remotely interested in for 3 weeks. After that three weeks, we looked ourselves, and found that home in two days. Yeah, you could call that 3 weeks wasted, but I was busy getting permits and prepping my bare property to live on.

At the time, the land was valued at 139,900. So not quite 12x, but close enough. Now, with my shop, the house, and my improvements, it's valued at 250K. Personally, I don't think I did too bad. Then again, this is my first go around, so I still have a bit to learn about real estate and all that shit.

*nog* I agree that ultimately you made the right decision, but still 3 weeks and at least 3 meetings, just is an awful lot of time wasted. Just different strokes for different folks though. For instance when I emailed (I hate calling him an agent or broker) my dude, I gave him exact instructions, told him when he could and could not call me and exactly what I wanted. I said if you don't have this by this time, lets call it quits. I don't want to waste time listening to "Oh its close to what you were looking for, or only a thousand more, or well it doesn't have X but its cheaper". I want exactly what I asked for. If it doesn't happen, I can wait or get someone who can produce results.

It sounds like for you 3 weeks was fine because you had a schedule and this worked for it. The issue I see out of the situation is that you got a house in 2 days. But that is a long set of reasons why I think that is a bad idea. Just to cliff it, 3 weeks went by with you getting presented things that you were not interested in leaving a sour taste. So you were more than likely easily persuaded to fill your need.

 honestly we could go back and fourth on ownership appreciation of goods and such, but lets be just frank, if you are happy with your setup (which you sound to be) then good job. Every transaction can be measured off of the overall satisfaction of both parties. If I went out and bought the lancer for 100,000 dollars but felt like I got everything that I wanted and this was worth it to me, then I got a good deal. Now you could prove it wrong, but if to ME it was a good deal (something about it made it worth that to me....like the prostitute in the trunk) that is all that matters.

Such is the life of the buyer and the seller. Someone usually has to concede, but sometimes you get lucky and it just all works out.

I'm more than willing to talk about this. Yeah, the agency my fiance went to, I was less than impressed with. Since we probably won't be buying another mobile home, nor looking for a piece of property, the only agents I will have to deal with are car salesman, and I have those down pat.

I really can see your point of view, and I agree with you. That 3 weeks was wasted, as was the time I spent talking to that douchebag. The home we ended up buying was a lucky break. The park where it was located was being torn down to make condos/apartments, so they were on a timeline to get that thing sold. That helped knock the price down too, I think.

BTW, what was the original topic here?
