Ripping movie to mpeg of h264

What are some good, hopefully free, programs to rip movies to mpeg so I can watch on my laptop without having to haul discs around?

For h264 (which is what I prefer), you can use RipBot264 with the right AviSynth script. Check out videohelp.com, as there is an article on doing so there that is perfect.

DVDFab with the DVD to mobile module and File to mobile module.


I am sure you can find the platinum version with all modules for free in the usual locations.

It will rip and encode at the same time. Many encoding presets for various mobile devices or you can custom encode.
