Been browsing for some budget floorspeakers. I have seen PSB and Paradigm mentioned pretty often as good bang for the buck speakers. Anyone have any experience with them?

No I don't trust them, most Canadians I have known have been shady or hooked on the shit.

This.
It isn't color, honor, rumor. It's colour, honour, rumour, etc...
And we use the metric system so 100dB here is only equal to 62.5dB in the states.

My biggest fear is that I will need to speak with customer service. I don't speak any French.

It's true...look at everything else:
1 mile = 1.6 kiometers
1 US gallon = 3.78 Liters
1 cup [US] = 1.040 842 730 8 cup [Canada]
1 pound = 0.453 592 37 kilogram
to convert temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius
[°C] = ([°F] − 32) × 5⁄9

Are you thinking of buying direct or from a store?
PSB makes very good stuff.

Not sure yet. There is a store that sells PSB that I may go by, if I am going that way anyway. It's close enough that it is a possibility, but far enough that it is not a certainty.
I will likely go by the Paradigm store next week as I will need to go to the area where it is located anyway.

It doesn't really matter. There is a store that sells PSB that I may go by, if I am going that way anyway. It's close enough that it is a possibility, but far enough that it is not a certainty.

Obviously you know this...but speakers are very person specific. PSB has a really good range of products (price point speaking specifically) that are all very highly acclaimed.
I'd call the store ahead of time if you have particular models in mind. Have them set the shit up and bring some CDs. Even if you don't plan to buy from them, go balling like you are ;)

Good advice. Yeah, I know what you mean. Personally, I think it is more likely that you can exclude certain speakers than find some you are confident you will like. The room is going to make some difference, plus it may just take a while to get to know the speakers.

More true words have never been spoken. Plus to the 1.
If you go the PSB route, stereophile has lots of reviews on them.

I actually found that site yesterday.
Let me ask a question, is Klipsch the new Bose or what? I see very few people even discussing them.
Of course, it may just be that you can get more bang for your buck elsewhere.

I am seriously considering these as well:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_108P362BG/Infinity-Primus-P362.html?tp=185&tab=review
$400 shipped for a pair is not bad, especially since it's from Crutchfield.
They had a really good review on Stereophile.

I read the reviews on that actually. Look around on that one, because although they get GREAT reviews....seems to be (like all infinity products) VERY user particular.
Not sure if you have ever had infinity car stuff, but you either LOVE or hate. Mostly the tweeters. Personally, if you were thinking Infinity, I'd consider polk. newegg has super sales on those all the time too (polk)
As for Klipsch, they are nice, but too expensive for what they deliver (imo). Of course I say this and have a pair of Athena towers. http://www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com/catalog/16/6513/?zmam=1962870&zmas=1&zmac=2&zmap=6513 I didn't get from there, just showing you.
I say that because Klipsche owns Athena, energy, and Mirage.

This and this.
Everyone has different tastes and different listening preferences. Personally, I have listened to all three of the mentioned speakers. Paradigm is a great bang for the buck speaker. Good build quality. They have a very separated sound. The highs, mids and lows are very distinct. Very much a monitor type speaker.
The klipsch flow together very nicely. The sound is very blended, not separated like the paradigm, but I found the low end to over power the rest of the speaker too much for my own personal taste.
The PSB's, i found, depend on what they are hooked up to. Yes all speakers depend on what they are hooked up to, but I found the PSB's are more so than others. I've heard them sound very well on higher end components, but sound like ass on just a basic receiver.
If I were you, I would also check into B&W and Monitor Audio, as well. I have owned the Monitor Audio Silver series S10's, and the B&W 604's and have loved them both. I liked the B&W's a bit more than the Monitor, but they are both very, very close and are both in about the same price range as the other three. I own the B&W 804's and 805's right now and I will never look back.
They are all good speakers, just different flavours for different tastes.

Interesting. Yeah, when I first got back into car audio the first thing I did was start researching Infinity comps and saw all the negative reviews on the tweets. My college roommate had a pair of infinity floorspeakers that I loved, but that has been long time ago.
How are those Athenas?

Thanks. That is especially good to know your thoughts on PSB -- I will be running a receiver and not high end components. I will look into the others.

You may fall into the people that love them. I am one of those people. I prefer a little bit sharper tweeter instead of a dull blended one.
The Athenas do very well for me. Then again I only wanted something to listen to at low volumes across a huge genre of music. I use my media server once in awhile but mostly a ps1 into a 200X2 amp out of a preamp....all low volume

Hey now pl8er, care what you say! Don't categorize all of us Canadians as Quebecers(Just because I will have to explain, Quebec is the French province in Canada)
