I'm not a fan of Mazda by any means, but the Wankel rotary has been their saving grace. The sound of that Furai is fucking amazing! It sounds like a superbike going down the track.
That thing makes some massive Hp numbers too...
I am positive that it will never make production, except maybe some race cars, if any racing sanction will let it enter... lol. It sure would be badass to see it made, and to hear it in person
The only thing that will cost more than buying the car though, will definitly be the price to put gas in it... Rotaries::gas as supas mom::sperm.
Thats right, checking your SAT skills with that one.

450HP isn't too bad for that car, and it's naturally aspirated too. Imagine what would happen if they put a turbo or supercharger on it! Did you catch that they were running it on pure Ethanol?
Yeah, rotaries fail in the fuel efficiency department. The new RX8 gets just as crappy gas mileage as some V8's, and worse than many V6's. My dad's 07 V6 'Stang gets 30 MPG on the freeway, and better than 20 around town, and it's 4.something liters. The RX8 is only 1.3 lol. Power efficiency, though, rates very high on this motor in terms of displacement v. horsepower.
Yeah, power efficiency is great, pumping out somewhere near 200 Hp per liter to the wheels. But on the bright side, it doesnt just burn A LOT of gas, it burns the oil too .
When people ask me about mine, I tell them "it's not the fastest car on the road, but at least it takes a lot of gas".
I still love it though. A few weeks ago I took a fairly long sweeping corkscrew ramp off of the highway and had a little fun with it. I ended up getting off of the highway going faster than I was on teh highway.

wouldn't mind swapping that to the back of an old VW Bug....at which point I would invest in some wheelie bars

I've seen some tube vids of turbocharged Subaru boxers in those things. I'm not sure if it's scary as hell or fast as fuck. Little of both I think.

Open headers + what sounds like a giant ass turbo = mic distortion pretty much no matter what...
That is freakin badass though. Never seen that before, does that not add massive amounts of weight behind the rear wheels?

Actually, no, not too much. Nothing that can't be counter acted by slightly heavier springs. IIRC, the Suby motors are aluminum with steel internals, so they should still be fairly lightweight. The real challenge comes in placing the radiator, turbo, and other accessories.
Yeah, the rad was one of my questions when I saw it was still water cooled... I guess you move the rad somewhere under a louvered front boot lid and the turbo somewhere near there too?
Also, doesnt seem like you could boost too much without fitting an intercooler somewhere in there... Props to that conversion, thats a lot of stuff in a small package...

The turbo is still in the back, and I believe, if you look closely, you can see the intercooler mounted above the engine. It's the shiny aluminum box with the air cleaner mounted to it. The turbo is in the top left of the engine compartment. I would imagine the radiator is either mounted in the front, or in front of the intercooler with an electric fan on it. It looks like the intercooler is actually mounted inside the cab part, so the radiator may be too.
