bought two cadence txa3004 amps for $79.xx on ebay. i might be buying one or two of the txa3002 if they still have some next time i get paid. they're the first production models with the short fins, but for the price i still think it was a good deal.

Just watch where you install them. I have installed several that have thermaled really quickly. :(

yea i heard that, i will try them out and see about mounting them somewhere they can get good air flow.

Or, you could do what I did in the past. Wire up some thermally controlled 80-120MM 12 V computer fans to your amp. You can pull the power from the +12V feeding the amp, and the thermal switch only turns them on at a certain temperature.

hmmm, im interested. i would have to wait until i get the amps too see where i can mount the fans.

Sure thing brosef. Pop me some pics, and I'll get you a wiring diagram and some suggested locations. Hell, you can even get some LED lit fans to give it some bling if it will be exposed.

bigtoyota479
07-14-2009, 05:38 PM
Did those amps come with manuals as well? If so, you should read them and let me know what the thermal cut off temp is. That way I can find a sensor that's either preset at a certain temp, or we can get you an adjustable one. Up to you.

i havent gotten them yet, but as soon as they get here i will get u that stuff. how much would the fans run me?

bigtoyota479
07-14-2009, 05:46 PM
Depending on the size, and whether you want LED's or not, 2-5 bucks a pop. The other stuff is minimal. Pretty cheap, and should be available at your local Radio Shack.

bigtoyota479
07-14-2009, 05:48 PM
Hell, if you wanted to get really fancy, you COULD wire up most of this stuff to the internals of the amp itself. Wire the thermal sensor directly to the output transistor, pull the power from the board in the amp. The only thing you would see are the wires to the fans, and maybe a dial for the temp control on the outside.

bigtoyota479
07-14-2009, 05:48 PM
Either that, or make a little box to store the fuse/relays/temp dial in. Options are endless man.

Or just use fans with remote wires so they come on with the amps. Why wait until the amps heat up to keep them cool? Start blowing their ass once they turn on yo.

bigtoyota479
07-14-2009, 06:01 PM
Yeah, that could work as well. I did try wiring the fans to the remote wire once, but the deck didn't use enough current to power them.

However, you could wire in a relay that would kick the fans on when the amps came on. I know how to do this as well.

Either way, man, it's your choice. Temp sensors or on with the amps, don't matter to me.

The reason I suggested the temp sensor, is that on my old amp, I actually took the amp apart and wired it all internally. The thermal sensor actually went onto an output transistor. Yeah, my e-peen was large on that one.

i think i would just wire them to come on with the amps, now i just have to find a place to mount them :p ill post up some pics once they're here.

No I am saying they make fans for this practice that have a +12 for power and a signal lead. So you pull power from the 12v going to the amp and signal wire from the HU just like you would your ampo.

IamDeMan
07-14-2009, 06:09 PM
Or maybe not. I swear I had stingers with 3 wires for this and they were squirrel cage fans. Now I can't find them.

_AnGeL_
07-14-2009, 06:14 PM
ima go to radio shack and ask if they have any of these fans with the 12v and signal lead. i love going to radio shack and see their reactions when u ask for something they dont have

bigtoyota479
07-14-2009, 06:16 PM
Something they don't have? Hell, walk in there with a small electronics part list, like resistors, transistor numbers, and specific diodes. Those douchebags are useless for building circuit boards.

So what you're saying is the fans had a relay built into them. Got it.

Personally, I think squirrel type fans on an amp would look like shit. If I had the time, I'd make some kick ass looking aluminum diamond plate faces/fan holders to mount onto the amp. But that's me.

Not really. Most amps have fins on the sides. These are meant to be insltalled parrallel to the amps and blow the fins. They work quite nicely. they were long narrow cages.

bigtoyota479
07-14-2009, 06:25 PM
OH! I see what you are saying. Mount them on the end of the amp and blow them parallel to the fins. I was picturing a squirrel fan on the TOP of the amp, and that would indeed look like shit.

I think between IamDeMan and myself, we can make this happen. Personally, looks for me are different than most other people. DeMan knows more about cosmetic shit than me. I just know the hardware, wiring, and parts aspect.

Tis why squirrelcages blowing on the side would work. Fins are on one side.

or, depending on the mounting of said amps, mount fans behind/below the fins to somewhat hide the fans but stil have the airflow through the cooling fins?

maybe?

recess mount amps with fans under false floor as well. Many things can be done to hide them if one must.

that is 5.25" the stinger goes up to 8.25 long which i think would be mo betta for those amps. But honestly if you aren't beatin that hard, you probably don't need them. With some thoughtful placement they may be fine. Just ride for a while and monitor them. If they seem to get too hot then start worryin about fans.
