Are you getting an IP address and if so does it start with 192.168?
You need to explain more brah because I got that shit.
So how do I see the ip im getting?
jesus

Start -----> Run ------> type CMD and hit enter ------> type ipconfig and hit enter
Post back your IP address.
jesus
07-27-2009, 10:09 PM
Open the cmd prompt again and type:
ping caraudio.com
It should retrieve the DNS info and post it back to you. Post back if it determines what caraudio.com's IP address is, or if there is an error.
comes back with ip 209.62.120.115

Then your wireless is working. You're either dumping packets like crazy or your browser is screwed. You did do this on the laptop right?
Yes im on my laptop but im connected to the interwebz via a cord right now not wirelessly since it wont connect to a wireless network.

Your port might be blocked. Do you know how to get into your router and open port 3389?

a blocked port shouldnt stop him from gettin an ip address....sounds like to me your router took a dump....try some other wireless device and see if it can connect..psp..ps3..another laptop..pda...something like that...if they can connect then go back to workin in the laptop..also you might want to go in and make a new profile under your connections and start from scratch also check your router to make sure your password is correct...i know from experience with vista it wont always tell you if your password is wrong, it will just keep trying to connect

my next advice would be setting the router back to default settings and then trying to connect with no protection, from there start configuring it again.
then I would try the firmware, does not make sense it would just quit working due to a firmware issue but odder things have happened.

After which I would make sure that your not being (or trying to be) statically assigned.
i saw the comment about multiple digit code. I'm not saying anything negative about whoever was offering help but always be CAUTIOUS of online assistance. Yes, I do it for people all the time, but really know the person.
Also its not just my network that is the problem so its not the router, I cant connect to any wireless network. I know the router works fine since other people are able to use it.

Answer my question. This could be as simple as you locking the WIFI in the off position on the laptop itself, by mistake.

Maximize your system tray and take another screen shot. Windows may not be managing your wifi. So shitty add on that came with the computer from the factory may be doing it.

That is your LAN connection.
You should have a wireless one as indicated above if you want to connect wirelessly.
START> CONNECTIONS> SHOW ALL CONNECTIONS
Right click the wireless connection and select repair. The icon should appear in the system tray.
At least mine does and I jump between the two all week long.

He needs to enable port 3389 on his router. Come on guys..............
jesus
07-28-2009, 06:15 PM
His router is blocking port 3389:
Using Remote Assistance Through A Firewall
Remote Assistance uses the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) to establish a connection between a user requesting help and a helper providing it. The RDP uses TCP port 3389 for this connection. To allow users within an organization to request help outside your organization using Remote Assistance, port 3389 must be open at the firewall. To prohibit users from requesting help outside the organization, this port should be closed at the firewall.
Refer to the instructions for administering the firewall for information about opening or closing port 3389.
Ok first round with pl8er didnt work so if anyone has any ideas for me to try while I wait for him to get back go for it.

FAIL would be the last thing my post was. Let me re-block my 3389 port on my Netgear real quick and you get in with an invitation. It won't happen. His computer having problems accessing his router would be moot when he wires in. The next logical step would have been to check his port.
Maybe I should just reformat back to factory settings shouldent that make things all good?

Again, I can access his computer via remote. The internet accesses mostly on port 80. I can access on that port.
The problem is more than likely a firewall application OR IPv4 class N and his router.
Have you done updates recently? Also, can you shut off your anti-virus, reboot and try wireless? Have you done any updates to the anti-virus recently? not definition updates but actual upgrades. Did it work while your anti-virus was installed or have you installed that recently?
What apps have you recently added?
Lots of questions, but the root of this is more than likely software based.
I'm not saying your wrong btw, just he has very limited network experience so he didn't mess with the router (i'm assuming) so it worked before and now it does not.

yes, you could. But that is sorta like buying a new car because you got a nail in your tire.
We can fix this. We just have to trouble shoot what is causing the problem.
So you cannot access from any router?
Did you try shutting off your anti-virus and rebooting then wireless?
