Crabtree has decided that he shouldn’t have to be paid less because – based on all the made-up, predicted drafts – Al Davis made a mistake. He wants to be paid more than Heyward-Bey, demanding his contract reflect that it was actually he who was the higher selected receiver.

It’s a ground-breaking, if intellectually bankrupt, concept.

Crabtree’s camp said Thursday that he is even willing to sit out the year and re-enter the draft next spring unless he gets more than the $23.5 million the Raiders guaranteed Heyward-Bey. The news was first reported by profootballtalk.com. Anything less than that stratospheric number is “unacceptable.”

“We are prepared to do it,” David Wells, a cousin of Crabtree, told ESPN. “Michael just wants fair market value. Michael is one of the best players in the draft, and he just wants to be paid like one of the best players.”

Crabtree is trying to get paid off perception, not reality.

Perhaps Crabtree isn’t aware that even though ESPN will deem sportswriter speculation on “Who will the Raiders pick?” a “Cold Hard Fact,” it is, in fact, not.

Crabtree apparently operates in a world ruled by Mel Kiper Jr. He wants to be paid based on what was wrongly predicted to occur rather than what actually did. In his mind, he was the first receiver drafted, even if he wasn’t.

I think he should hold out for more money. He should be paid what he thinks he is worth, unless no one is willing to pay that.

before the draft:
Each morning, Crabtree wakes up at 11:30, then sits in bed, simultaneously watching movies on his flat-screen and Young Jeezy videos on his laptop. At around 2 p.m. he makes a move, but he can’t shower, not with his foot in a cast. So the 6′1″, 215-pound former Texas Tech receiver climbs into the tub—his first baths since grade school—bum foot hanging over the edge. At 3 he leaves his place for the first time, impressively fleet on a set of crutches, for lunch at Pappadeaux. The menu: fried shrimp and mashed potatoes, with two lemonades—one with freshly squeezed straw-berries, the other with uncut berries floating in the drink like ice. Then it’s back home for more movies and videos. At 10 Crabtree orders a pepperoni thick-crust from Pizza Hut, the empty box joining nine others stacked like a Jenga game on his kitchen counter. “That’s my regimen,” he says.

Marketing agent Mike Ornstein says he has made NFL receiver Michael Crabtree enough money in endorsement deals that the still-unsigned first-round draft pick won't be pressured to play football for a while. "He has made over 750 grand in marketing dollars," Ornstein said. Crabtree was selected No. 10 overall by the San Francisco 49ers but has not come to terms with the team on a new contract. "It is not that he doesn't want to play, but he is not under the gun to," Ornstein said

Yes, it has. I think ESPN did a story on players that have sat out their rookie seasons. Didn't work out too well for them..

Crabtree is an idiot...this isn't baseball or hockey where you can go play somewhere else and come back and jump right in...he's not playing any football, the 49ers will move on, he'll get drafted in the 5th round, get shit for a contract, and suck ass.

U CAN'T TOUCH THIS!!!!!!!!Here comes the Hammer?

Posted by Mike Florio on October 6, 2009 11:20 PM ET
As we continue to wait for a puff of white smoke to emerge from a Bay Area chimney, a pair of really big gold pants has been raised up the flag pole.

Per Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat, aging and largely irrelevant '90s rap star M.C. Hammer was present (http://twitter.com/MattMaiocco) for Tuesday's meeting between receiver Michael Crabtree and the 49ers.

So for the first time since Master P handled the negotiations of Ricky Williams' rookie contract with the Saints, an entertainer apparently is trying to get his fingerprints onto an NFL deal.

It wouldn't be Hammer's first flirtation with the NFL. Way back in '91, he was a derby-and-cane fixture at Falcons games, at the behest of cornerback Deion Sanders.

They later collaborated on a song, "Straight to My Feet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM7vqqS8jSI)."

And Maiocco recalls that Hammer lived in Deion's Fremont, California mansion in 1994, his only season with the 49ers.

Sanders, of course, was represented by Crabtree's agent, Eugene Parker, and Sanders has injected himself into the middle of the present mess by suggesting that multiple teams had tampered with Crabtree by offering him twice the money that the 49ers had placed on the table.

It's unclear what Hammer's role, if any, might be. But Maiocco points out that an employee at the hotel where the meeting occurred said that Crabtree was heard telling Hammer, "Get it done."http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/10/06/here-comes-the-hammer/
