Tomorrow I'll probably be going to a bass race competition in Cincinnati. I pulled up the website to read the rules and it didn't answer any of my questions.

Where is the meter placed?

Can I use music songs with curse words? (MECA banned my music)

Is it really sealed up only?

I'm not willing to ask this out CA.com and I did do a search. The answer wasn't on the first page of results and I know if I kept going I would just get side-tracked.

i think its placed on the windshield, you play music for 30 and who ever gets the highest average score wins.

ranked in class.. 120-129, 130-139, 140-149....

I read all of that. It doesn't mention meter placement or music rules besides the fact you can't run music that is really just masked tones.

The contestant must be outside of the vehicle while the sound system is being metered and all doors, windows, and other openings to the vehicle must remain closed during this time.

Exception - Competitors may remain inside of the vehicle during metering provided:

They wear adequate hearing protection at all times.
The competitor must sign a Bass Race entry form that includes a waiver stating that the competitor understands that "exposure to high sound pressure levels may result in temporary or permanent hearing loss".

i think all dbdrag is meter on windshield, sealed up

Instead of measuring the SPL, they measure who has the fastest sound.

You can be in the car, and you can play whatever music you like as long as its not a solid tone.

The score is a rolling average over 30 seconds, so if you turn the volume up, the score goes up. Turn the volume down, the score goes down.

The goal is to be at the top of the class that you are in. So you want to end on a 129.9, 139.9, etc.

The most important part is the start. A good start can make or break your run. On most meters you need to start your music before the meter says "go".

This is gregs show so he has one of the red LED leaderboards, so my rule applys. When watching the leaderboard, unpause your music when the leaderboard says "set".

One point I always make to newcomers to bassrace is that you want to get to a 1x9.8 as soon as possible and hold it there, then in the last second or two give it a volume click to try and get to a 1x9.9

On a side note, you do NOT want to go over a 1x9.9 during eliminations. During qualifying you can go over your ideal score and turn it back down as long as you do it before the time is up. If you go over your intended class during eliminations you lose (unless your competition goes over as well)

If you have any other ?'s just let me know. It's pretty simple once you understand the basics.

As for what class you can be in, the best way to determine that is to do a clinic run before the show officially starts. Greg is pretty nice about letting people do that. Find a song with a good 35+ second long bass line in it and do a peak hold measurement. If you meter say a 135, then obviously you can't get to a 139.9 so you need to do the 129.9 class.

143.4 on the dash. Not sure if I was sealed up though. 139.9 might be perfect..........

jesus

144.3 on a 42hz tone.

No problem. You should be able to do 139.9 with a score like that.

Greg might even let you try a practice bassrace run just so you can learn the basics.

also helps if you find a song with the same freq. that your car peaks in ;)

Fill your car with water, sound waves travel faster through water. I dont think they have rules against that.

So, I just got back from the bass race. Charged my camera, dumped all my memory cards, took a shower, got my brother-in-law up early. Got there...............they informed us that the competition is on the 22nd. :crap:

I've been blowing up Noah's phone and AIM all day to find out when he was going to show up. I bet he's laughing his ass off right now.
