DO NOT play the stereo in my car without it running!!!
I just finished installing my amp and sub in my Civic today, and test ran it for about 5 minutes. Went to start my car, it wouldn't. Hmmm. It would appear my 6 year old 400 amp factory battery is crap. The next purchase will be a battery, most likely a red or yellow top Optima. Shoulda known better, but oh well. It was worth a shot.

Never had this problem when in shitboxes running 3x the power, that battery must have been on it's last leg.

Most battery's are rated for 72 months. This one is right at the edge of the 72 month dealio, and it's a tiny 400 CCA battery anyway. I'm just glad I found out in my shop instead of at Wal-Mart or something. I'd hate to be stranded amongst all those fucking weirdos.

i have to start my car just to get my shit to run...leave it off and when it is just starting to get loud the amps run outta juice and shut off...lol

LOL! I've got some large-ish cable feeding mine, so getting power TO the amp isn't an issue. I feel that replacing it with a 800-900 CCA Optima is a much better idea. It'll mean I have to custom fab a battery tray and other things, but that's what Crunk U. is for, right?
Unless one of you knows of something better than Optima battery's..........

I had a Yellow Top for six years as a primary, I don't think I'd buy another at current prices.

WHen the batt went out on BC, I bought a regular one from advanced.

Yeah, it would suck for your battery to die outside a place... that sells batteries.:haters:

gotta love walmarts battery return policy, half the time they dont even test them. if your battery is getting close to the 2 or 3 yr warranty just drain it and bring it back for a new one and get the new warranty that goes with it.

I was trying to make a play on another thread that was currently going. I see none of you idiots got it. Thanks. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
On that note, Optima's no longer worth the price, eh? Just a standard acid cell? Those XS batt's look nice, but not for a primary. I need a new primary. Eventually I will get an XS as a secondary on it's own isolation relay system. So, the system would only pull from the XS batt, and leave the primary to start the car. However, I has no money's to play, only to replace my POS primary batt that sucks ass.

The recommended batt is a 1400. It's 400 bucks. I no has that kind of money, as mentioned in one of my posts. Maybe later.

i have optima red tops in the heep and red yota, have had them for about 7 &5 years with no issues. i have no experience with the yellow top, but when its time to upgrade, thats what ima buy.

Yellow top is just the Deep Discharge version.
The YellowTop® high-performance AGM battery is one of the only true dual-purpose automotive batteries available. With premium cranking power and unparalleled cycling capability (rechargeability), it is perfect for modern accessory-loaded vehicles. The YellowTop can repeatedly bounce back from deep power drains to full energy capacity, so it can power plenty of electronics and still start you up time after time. Lower internal resistance also provides more consistent power output and faster recharges.
Trucks with winches, vehicles with multiple electronics, cars with high-demand audio systems, commercial vehicles and heavy equipment all rely on this battery to provide ultimate starting and deep cycle power.
I have a red top too, in my Yota. It's 6 or 7 years old, and starting to get a little weak. I left my lights on once for upwards of 6 or 7 hours when it was new. It still had enough juice left to start my truck! I'm pretty much sold for life after that.

This is what I will most likely do, except it won't be ghetto rigged. I'll make a new tray, and get a new hold down to make it look factory. I like my shit looking clean. Back when I was in HS, I didn't care what it looked like as long as it worked lol.

there is plenty better for those who compete or have a lot of power needs, but for price and ease of obtaining, you can't beat optima imo. Get a red top too. You won't be making a habit of jamming with ignition off so it is abetter choice.

Hah, unfortunately I am not around enough lately to get parodies.
In other news, if it was me, I would go pick up walmart's battery. It's 80 bux or so, people say goods things about it, and like someone else said you can screw wally in the butt with returns.

Wanna know something that I know that you guys don't? It'll blow yer mind. Srsly.
So, we had this job at a place called Johnson Controls. Come to find out, they make battery's there. Automotive battery's. Motorcycle battery's. Lawnmower battery's, 12V, 6V, HD Semi battery's, 24V. I was like, whoa cool!. They make the Optima's in Colorado, and ship them up here.
Anyway, we did 3 installs there, and I spent some time looking around, and noticed something interesting. All these battery cases. Black ones, yellow ones, clear ones, red ones. Hmmmm? Then I started watching their production. Orly? MOTHERFUCKER! All dem battery's are made at the same fucking place. Les Schwab, Interstate, Energizer, Exxide, Wal Mart specials, all of em. Same place. Same lead plates, same acid, same cases. Different stickers. Shit you not, son.
Cliff notes: All car battery's are made at the same place. Same materials. Find the cheapest one and run son. They're all the same!
High performance battery's like Kinetics, etc excluded.

Um I hope they aren't using acid in an optima.
BTW, this is nothing new and you are doing a little assuming. Build houses are nothing new. Many car audio components are made in the same facilities, but not necessarily designed the same way. The build houses build the components to the specs of the customer(mfg). Now of course if they are built alongside on the same line at the same time, then ya I would be confident saying they are twins. But if made on different lines there is a possibility for differences. When it comes to lead acid though, I can't see any of them being much different from each other if at all. However, an optima is not a lead acid, so it is not going to be made alongside a die hard bud. Even if it is built in the same house.

i used to work for johnson controls...they did make several different batteries..but i dunno bout being exactly the same..seems like when they made the OLD sears die hard battery it had a lil more strict quality controls on it..

Uhhh.....I said they make the Optima's at a different facility in Colorado. Not at this one. That's the REASON they don't make them here, is because they are different. lol.
All teh battery's are made on the same lines. All they do is use different colored cases. There is only one line for filling the batt's. Sure, the thickness of the lead plates may vary a little bit. That's how you get the different CCA ratings. Anyways, they are the same. I've talked to some peeps around that facility. Believe me or not, it's up to you.

I didn't comprehend what you said about optima, my bad. BTW, I am not saying i don't believe you, in fact it is highly plausible. It is old tech that is pretty much refined nearly as far as it can, combine that with the trend of build houses in so many other fields, it is easy to believe. Many amps across mfgs end up being clones of each other and even when not clones, they use the same damn facilities for production.
