View Full Version : a tv, (external) dvd player and a netbook

here's what i'm wanting to do:

i have a netbook with no dvd drive in it. i want to buy a flat panel tv with a usb on it so i can buy an external dvd drive and use it for the netbook and on the tv. is this possible?? are there any small flat panel tv's (15 - 22") with usb ports on them that would make this work??

Does your netbook have either a VGA, HDMI, or DVI port? Some even come with S-Video. I dont think hooking into a usb in a tv will work. I think that usb in tv's are only used to view photos and stuff like that but I could be wrong.

Run vga out on the netbook to vga/dvi in on the tv.....either just use windows media sharing to run movies from another computer in the house that has a dvd, stream the media you want to watch or get an external dvd drivd.

Upon re-reading no, usb to tv won't work. The tv won't be able to de-code the dvd signal. Unless you have a portable dvd player you need to use the dvd to netbook and the netbook to the tv.

or just buy a dvd player as they go for about 10 on ebay.

Hey man happened to you Saturday night? I got that hotel room and made a nice dinner because you said you were coming. I waited and waited and waited but no sign of you. You could have let me know that you couldnt make it, I was really excited and you sounded like you were too.

USB wouldn't work. Firewire would. There are tons of monitors you can buy that are custom-fabricated for external monitors on camera rigs.
