Don't have any before pictures, and I haven't been lifting that long anyway, but I started really skinny.

Don't bother critiquing poses or any of that gay stuff, just looking for suggestions of areas that need more work to catch up.

So far I've come up with shoulders, chest and lower parts of my back.

Sorry there aren't any upper thigh pictures!

lol idk..

I eat hella food. Can't really calculate how much because I eat at the dining center at school.

I think I might try those home made protein bars for more calories and such.

I am 6' and weigh 155

About my lower back, what are some exercises I can do that don't include a bar? There is only like 1 bar that I could use for anything at our weight room and it's always busy as fawk.

well to that I say fuck you :P

as for lower back, if you can pin your legs on your bed lean to the floor to form a 90 degree and bring your upper body up in line with your legs. Repeat for 10 and rest. Your back should be relatively strong, so hold it for longer in each rep than say a curl.

Word. That is left over from my extreme novice days.

My routine included a Chest/Back/Shoulders day, followed by an Arms day :crap: And if I didn't remember what day I was on, I would automatically do arms. LOLZ

Now I am doing Chest/Triceps, Back/Biceps, Legs/Shoulders.

I am catching up but my chest is still disappointing.

you got Dbells? If so, start hitting those at all angles (incline, decline, flat) Go light to medium light and use your abs to support your body while doing the reps (just leave your shoulders on the pad.)

You mean keep my hips and shoulders on? Otherwise isn't that bad form?

I've been doing 5 sets of 5 on flat with 60lb db's followed by incline with 50's for like 3 sets of 8. Obviously it changes around, but I definitely need to add decline into the mix.

Eh, I have a ton of years on you...you have a much better foundation than I started with. You could easily get past my size.

I'm saying on some of your presses use your core. Plant your center of your shoulders at the edge of the bench and have your legs bent 90 degrees I'll try to find some pics.

Minnesota. We have tons of Lifetimes. I think there are like 4 within a 15 minute drive of me. Mine is less than 5 minutes from leaving my front door to entering lifetime.

Lifting at school absolutely blows though. It's crowded as shit and they don't have enough equipment. Db's are plentiful, but there is only one cage type thing to squat in lol.

Pl8er has it covered. Ill say, with your foundation, you needa serious bulk session. from now till the end of March. lift heavy and eat heavier. You need a weight gainer. With your metabolism it doesnt need to be that clean of a diet either. Lots of red meat plus other proteins and heavy on the carbs. An eight week cut afterwards will have you dialed in and ripped.

Dumbells are your friend. Heavy Dbs on all three chest positions. Heavy bent over one arm rows and a lat machine will get your back right. Heavy thigh workouts. Nice ab routine. For some extra rest, go lighter on the arm and calf workouts. Those look good. You dont wanna neglect them but they dont need alot of work.

In short...Eat, heavy chest workouts, squats, and when you are ready start deadlifting. And eat some more.

I could see you at 185 by April 1 and 175 ripped by June 1.

pl8er
11-09-2009, 10:58 PM
set yourself a goal weight and watch your body fat percentage. Hit one or the other and stop and go into cutting. I'm going for 225 but 230 max and if I hit 16% body fat I stop no matter what.

any chance of getting a workout partner? Really makes reaching goals easier faster

Holy hell. I wish I were at home so I could choose what I eat. I think I really need to check out those home made protein bars.

Would you guys suggest I continue on this 5x5 @ 60 pound trend for DB benching? (I think I can move up to 65 next chest day) I never really know how many reps and sets I should be shooting for.

Also, I tend to spend about 45 minutes in the weight room for each of my 3 days, and usually lift 6ish days a week.

Is that enough time per outing, or should I be adding lifts to work muscles harder?

I would reduce the number of times you are lifting to prevent overtraining and step up the weights. You should be failing on your last reps. I'm not saying load the weights, I'm saying properly lifting your weights should fatigue your muscles to the point of being weakened. Hell on many bicep days, my last set is with about 25-30lb db's and I can barely move those bitches.

Totally with ya there. I'm giving you the advice that grows muscle most quickly, not what I personally do  I too look forward to it.

Keep mixing it up and do the bulk as suggested. Yeah, it sucks, you put on fat and you feel awful about yourself. People may even give you shit about working out 5 or 6 days a week and you're fat. Those same people will be saying "holy shit dude, your jacked" come spring when you cut down.

Yep, over the summer I had a diet consisting of many fast food meals (late night) + dinner at home before that. Didn't gain anything.

Now I've been lifting hard, and eating more than ever, and I think I'm finally starting to get a little bit more weight on me. Unfortunately a lot of the things I eat are in the dorm room, so naturally they're pretty shitty for you. I only get 2 meals a day at the Dining Center.

Mon: bicep some core training
Tue: Back/Shoulders
Wed: Legs core training
Thur: Chest
Fri: tri's
Sat: just me solo and HEAVY doing supersets (normally concurrent with no rest until the entire superset is done)

~1 hour of working out with about 2 minutes average rest between sets. During a single machine I am about 30 seconds but as I walk from one side to the other....it factors in.

Superset example for ya: BENCH/CURLS/SHRUGS
BENCH
315X2
225X5
135X15-20
only rest enough to pull a plate from each side, maybe 10 seconds
Curl (straight bar only 50lbs)
25 reps
Shrugs @ 475 X 10

Not a true superset, but that is what I personally call it. By the third time around I'm usually winded and resting for greater periods of time.

Add an item from the Mcdonalds dollar menu once every day if you are trying to gain weight. And drink lots of milk. You don't need to eat a ton of food if you eat super high calorie foods. It's hard to eat alot, i did it for a few days and gained weight, but it does make you feel sick.

your muscles will adapt. Sticking to one exercise will lose results fast. Keep mixing it up. Sometimes hit weights that make you fail at 8....sometimes to high reps....do pull offs too. If you have a preacher curl machine load it with 10's...5 take off a 10 5 take of 10 and so on....if that isn't enough.....add a larger bottom plate.

get a blender, get protein and get peanut butter when it is on sale. Take 2 cups water, 2 or 3 scoops of protein, 1 or 2 heaping scoops of PB. If you can do skim milk instead of water do that and put ice in the milk. That will make a whole meal and high calorie.

Also, is it true that each bar is upwards of 1000 calories? :)

Thats opposite of what most people experience IMO. Work harder on your chest is all I can say.

Flat benches, declines, inclines, and flies. Occasionally added in pullovers I mixed up these 4 exercises for a few years and got a great chest. Stayed in the 8-12 rep range majority of the time too.

I decided to do 3 sets of bent leg and then 3 sets of straight leg after I did squats.

I think today was my third time doing them. I started with 3 sets of 6 @ 135 bent leg and then did 3 sets of 6 @ 135, 155 and 175 straight legged.

Any tips for keeping a better grip while doing straight leg deadlifts? When I stepped up to 175 I had to stop at 6 reps because I felt like the bar was going to slip out of my hands. :crap:

http://www.uniquefit1.com/images/view/303

http://www.thetrainingstationinc.com/strapped.jpg

Weight lifting straps are used to enhance your grip on heavy exercises like deadlifts, shrugs, cable rows, etc. Straps are normally used on back and trap exercises but can also be used on exercises like heavy dumbbell presses or curls.

It takes some practice to get the hang of using weight lifting straps, but it is worth the effort. Straps can dramatically improve your grip, which will allow you to better hit the back and traps. Most people can shrug more weight than their grip will allow.

How to use Weight Lifting Straps:

Wrist straps are usually a long strip of fabric (nylon, cotton, leather or suede) with a loop on one end. Place one end of the strap through the hole at the other end, the 2 straps should mirror each other.

Put your hand through the circle made by the strap.
With your palms facing up the straps should lay between your thumb and index finger on both hands.
Snug the strap tight around the wrist.
Place your hands on the bar with the strap hanging towards the floor.
Pull the strap under the bar and back over the top, repeat.
Twist the bar towards you to tighten the straps.
Tip: Strap in your least coordinated hand first.

Wrist straps can be beneficial in your training, but be careful not to over use them or you will end up with a weaker grip.

As a few of you guys are thin and small stature, let me say that belts are EXCELLENT but your wrists are more than likely small. There is a better way to wrap the belt to more evenly distribute your weight across your wrists.

I'll make a video a bit later on it.

Monitor your levels, buy quality products and make sure to have post drugs as well. It will make you hit goals, but side effects are pretty certain.

Now listen here Baton Rouge, I am just reading about it. I am not going to buy anything until I am sure when to use it.

I first need to work on my diet, I know I am not eating enough. But its extremely hard for me to eat a lot of food, red meat at that, im use to chicken but not steaks and shit. I need to intake about 4000 calories a day for me to gain weight significantly.
