A second worm to hit the iPhone has been unearthed by security company F-Secure.
It is specifically targeting people in the Netherlands who are using their iPhones for internet banking with Dutch online bank ING.
It redirects the bank's customers to a lookalike site with a log-in screen.
The worm attacks "jail-broken" phones - a modification which enables the user to run non-Apple approved software on their handset.
The handsets at risk also have SSH (secure shell) installed.
Many people use SSH so other programs can remotely connect to an iPhone and, among other things, transfer files. It comes with a default password, "alpine" which should be changed.
Users who have installed SSH and not changed the password are especially at risk.
The new worm is more serious than the first because it can behave like a botnet, warns F-Secure.
This enables the phone to be accessed or controlled remotely without the permission of its owner.
'Clearly malicious'
"It's the second iPhone worm ever and the first that's clearly malicious - there's a clear financial motive behind it," F-Secure research director Mikko Hypponen told the BBC.
"It's fairly isolated and specific to Netherlands but it is capable of spreading."
He added although the number of infected phones was thought to be in the hundreds rather than thousands, the worm could jump from phone to phone among owners using the same wi-fi hotspot.
A spokesperson for ING Bank said that a warning was going to be put on the bank's official website.
"We are also briefing call centre personnel," she added. "It's important to remember that the worm only affects jail-broken phones and it is only aimed at customers in the Netherlands."
The first iPhone worm, called ikee, was harmless. Users with infected phones found their wallpaper replaced with a picture of 1980s popstar Rick Astley.
It also targeted jail-broken phones which were SSH enabled.
Its creator Ashley Towns said he wrote the ikee program in order to raise the issue of iPhone security.

H yeah and all that can be avoided by not jailbreaking or by turning off the wifi. Those that have jailbroken their phones should download open sshNand reset their passwords as mentioned.

There is no "law" saying we can't hack our shit. If you aren't a douche, and you changed teh default password like a good little hacker, then you will have no issues, lol.

Actually there is a law, just like you can be prosecuted for modding an XBOX or a Wii.
Dumb, but illegal.

to an extent.. if you purchased the item it is your possession and you can do w/e you want with it.
now, if you are caught with illegally downloaded content on your system or if you running a ser...e for financial gain for modding consoles than yes you can be prosecuted..
shit i have ROL color modded controllers for my 360. OMG i can get prosecuted!

You're missing the verb:
Prosecuted
Why aren't all of us in prison for downloading music illegally. Someone actually has to enforce it, but it doesn't make it any less illegal.

Negative. You can hack your owned hardware. However, mfgs have the right to no longer support once you have. The problem comes in when the hacked hardware is used to circumvent things such as copyright laws, but at that point you aren't prosecuted for hacking YOUR hardware. You are prosecuted on copyright infringement laws.
Or the changes you make allow unauthorized access or useage in some form on their network. Still the crime isn't in the hacking, but it is in what the hack allows.
Of course the two are closely linked because who is gonna hack it to just do their own shit and not use some company's network or something else they shouldn't be doing, but the act itself is not illegal. You can change code to suit your needs, however if you distribute the changed code then it is a different matter.
Please cite a law that specifically says I cannot make changes to my iPhone that do not pertain to circumventing DRM measures.

You don't have to be caught with the material. Any measure taking that simply allows circumventiuon of copyright measures is illegal.
why aren't the people who created the jailbreaking/unlocking programs in jail?
Stupid question.
Jailbreaking is technically illegal because of things it allows. Not because it is hacking or changing of code, but because of what the changes allow you to do.
As stated, who the fuck is going to waste time prosecuting this shit.

This...
like when MS kicked off a million live users for having hacked boxes and playing stolen games. They didnt prosecute... just kicked em off their network..

That is really the only solution. Prosecution would be a waste of money and resources. However, kicking them off the network is well within the company's right and will cost little money and effort to implement.
