I've been leaving mine on about:blank for years. Primarily because it helps load ie/firefox much faster. When I used to have it going directly to hotmail or a forum, opening up a browser the thing would just start trying to surf the web when the application isn't even loaded causing it to lag or slow the browser down.
Though lately the nice feature of firefox that I like is when I shut my computer down with 3 different browsers and like 9 different tabs then restart my computer the first thing it opens is all those pages and all those tabs. It's nice when your on multiple forums and or looking at child porn.
