1997 - 2000 jeep cherokee sport/classic vs a 1996 - 2000 nissan pathfinder. which would you choose? what are the pros and cons of both?

My dad has the Nissan frontier from about the same time... I think it's the same motor(I think 3.3 v6). I'm not very impressed, I had an 88 with a 3.0 v6 was a way better truck IMHO

My pros and cons of a vehicle like this would have to do with off-road ability, which doesn't sound like something you're going to be using it for anyway.

Jeep cons: Chrysler product which is not reliable, loses value faster than hell, wont last as long.

A solid axle is a big long piece of metal under the engine that connects the front tires. Look under any pathfinder, and you'll not see one of these.

I prefer a stock off road capable vehicle.....I have had to get way too many out of some really bad situations.

I really like the old ones though:D old CJ's with the 304 and sidepipes and old FJ's

IMO the stock cherokee sits way too low. and the lack of posi or locker is a downer....I don't know what axles they have, but are lockers avail. for the stock cherokee?

The last couple of years were dead. No improvements from year to year that are relevent.

go find them both at a used dealership and see which has the space and ride you like. since this will not be used for adventures, then just get the one you like the feel of.

Nope. In my rig I pull a strap and WHOOSH the chair comes right out. I think the cherokee is the same way. If not, it must lay down flat.
