1997 - 2000 jeep cherokee sport/classic vs a 1996 - 2000 nissan pathfinder. which would you choose? what are the pros and cons of both?

My dad has the Nissan frontier from about the same time... I think it's the same motor(I think 3.3 v6). I'm not very impressed, I had an 88 with a 3.0 v6 was a way better truck IMHO

i have owned alot of nissans and have never had any trouble out of them. i have 2 right now

no. tinted windows, new stereo, new front and rear door speakers and new amp for the highs. may get the big 3 done. if i get rims, they well be used.

Dont like those rims on the PF but the body is much better, imo.
i'm choosing between these 2 for trunk room. i see 1 or maybe 2 18's in my future. do the seats fold all the way down flat on both of them??

My pros and cons of a vehicle like this would have to do with off-road ability, which doesn't sound like something you're going to be using it for anyway.
Nissan pros: More reliable, will last longer, will hold value better
Jeep cons: Chrysler product which is not reliable, loses value faster than hell, wont last as long.

as far as I know, all Cherokees are solid axle and he was saying that was the pro to make his decision
but with a solid axle, won' that make for rough ride?? won't you have amuch greater chance of breakin that axle as opposed to something with independent suspension or am i fukin this all up?

A solid axle is a big long piece of metal under the engine that connects the front tires. Look under any pathfinder, and you'll not see one of these.

I prefer a stock off road capable vehicle.....I have had to get way too many out of some really bad situations.
I really like the old ones though:D old CJ's with the 304 and sidepipes and old FJ's

IMO the stock cherokee sits way too low. and the lack of posi or locker is a downer....I don't know what axles they have, but are lockers avail. for the stock cherokee?

They engauge both wheels on the axle so that you have true 4WD. (no slippage)

my 96 isuzu/honda rodeo/passport sits a bit higher and has 4.10's and posi front and rear. however it has IFS(kinda nice for some ruts)

passport has stock skid plates and actually more ground clearance than the cherokee.

The last couple of years were dead. No improvements from year to year that are relevent.

go find them both at a used dealership and see which has the space and ride you like. since this will not be used for adventures, then just get the one you like the feel of.
