I have a shitty Fender Frontman 15R. I got it free from a friend. It's got a ground loop... but it's intermittent. 3 out of four times I turn it on, it'll have a really bad static. If you hold the strings, or touch the bridge, and then touch any of the top metal part where the handle is, it'll stop. Also, if you make a link between the shield of the 1/4" plug and the top metal part, it'll stop.
I was thinking of opening it up and grounding the negative post on the input to the point where the transformer is grounded. Aye or nay?

This is sometimes cause by the actual 1/4'' input on the amp/guitar. It may be loose and not connecting well. I have an old peavey tube amp and I no this occurs sometimes, and that's the problem. Not sure if yours is doing the same thing or not though.

Well, when I got it, the original nut on it was off, and God knows how long it was off for. There is a big possibility it's loose. I'll take it apart later on and check it out. Resolder it and what not.
