I finally bought some wrist hooks today (woulda bought straps but it was all Wal-Mart had) for deadlifts and shrugs. Pretty sure why my traps are lacking is because on heavy shrugs my grip gives out before anything else. I bought these.

ANyone else use anything similar? When do I need to use them? Just on heavy shrugs/deadlifts? I know I will be able to deadlift and shrug more now with these. Will they benefit me or is it like cheating?

Those hooks look like they would be uncomfortable and get annoying. I use just the regular old school straps for shrugs, deadlifts and back.

Use them till you have your grip training in check. I understand the use of straps as you don't want to limit yourself to your grip strength. But with a proper implemented grip training protocol all you need is chalk. I never use straps, in competition they're not allowed so it wouldn't make sense for me to use them even I did need them.

I normally deadlift with a supinated grip with my left and an overhand grip on my right. I can get more reps this way.

Last November I bet I could have deadlifted 450 or so but I never go less than 4 or 5 reos,

Ive seen people improve their grips by using thicker bars by using some foam grips you can put on the bar.

Used them yesterday on shrugs. I can get 2-3 more reps in each set.

Nah, not really.

I just don't want to become reliant on them. I'm gonna use them for shrugs no doubt, but gonna try to keep it heavy weight deadlifts only.
