Because you have to balance the weight. Take two dumb bells, hold them together and it will feel the same as a bar. It's gay cuz when i go to them gym, i look like a pussy with 35 pound dumbells, even though i can easily bench double that.

If it were fear of it crashing on your face I'd think barbell would seem heavier. Unless you're saying that the fear of it hitting your face gives you more motivation or something?
But it's all about balance. I love DB bench press though. It's great because I lift alone and never have a spotter.
2 80lb dumbells are much heavier than 155lbs of barbell. hmmmmmm...............

Speaking of dumbells, i am going to see how much weight i can max out at for 8 reps. Probably like 50s or so.

How much can you bench with a barbell?
I think you aren't giving yourself enough credit with the dumbbells. Tonight I did 70's for 5 sets of 6 reps.

Tonight i tried 70's and couldn't even get them up. I flat bench 205 with a bar and i can do 140x12 easily.

That can easily be estimated. What is the highest amount of weight you have ever done, and how many reps. Hell, there is even a calculator that can do it online, but you probably don't need it.

I haven't done the highest amount I can do. I haven't done it with a spotter since high school lol.

You work more of your stabilizer muscles with dumbbells. They generally aren't as strong and reach the point of exhaustion sooner.

No, take like 165 and rep it off as many times as you can. That would probably give you a pretty good estimate of what you can max out at.

may have something to do with the leg...SRS.. Legs help stabilize you.

nigga you is strong enough to do it without a spotter lol. I mean, you should be if you are benching 70 pound dumbbells. If you are unsure that you can get 165 up at least once by yourself then there is no way you can bench 200, just saying.
Oh well, just do the heaviest you can go without a spotter and tell me how many reps

I'll do it next week whether I have a spotter or not I guess. I am on a 5 day split and today was chest day, so I have a little bit of time before next chest day.
but I won't be able to get quite as many reps as i'd like without a spotter there.
