Don't you have a modem? You need WiFi? More details other than a cable router dood.

My surge protector was pulled out of the wall by accident and it damaged my wireless router. Now it doesn't work.

So I'm back to JUST my modem. Have a laptop and other devices that utilize wireless.. which is why I made this thread.

My apologies for lack of information.

You should know better.

G/N required? Range? Price?

G is fine, medium range.. usually I'm in the same room or a couple rooms over using the wireless.

Price is whatever I need to pay.

DIR-615 is a good one, as is a TrendNet TEW-639 GR. Both can be had for 40 bucks or so.

EDIT: I think that TEW is N only though.

What is the difference between N & G?

bigtoyota479

Speed, bro. N is faster, but only if you have N stuff to use it with.

bigtoyota479

And that TrendNet is still 70 bucks lol. My guide lied.

This is the one I use, as I don't have any need for N speed. Still, it's 40 bucks, so you may as well go N class and get more features too.

Alright, it's G, so that won't limit my cable connection, right? My speeds are:

Hellz no. G is good for 54 Mb/s.

J31Bro

Shweet.. mind naming off a few reasons N is better than G? or these extra "features" you speak of?

bigtoyota479

N is much faster, good enough to do HD streaming with no issues whatsoever. However, it requires N on both ends. It's good for 300 Mb/s.

Just features built into the router. Netgear's portal to access the router is kind of confusing and a PITA. D-Links QoS engine is very highly rated. The review I have just says it has lots of features, and that's about it. It also has the highest throughput speeds of the routers tested.

I think he was more or less looking for guidance on what and where to buy. If someone also happened to have one then bonus.

Now go douche your ass out and STFU.
