Still undecided. They sell another 5.0 set that's a decent upgrade for what I have now for ~$800+ship.

OBs can sound great, but I think if this is a learning experience, you're better served by going with a more traditional design...room placement is annoying enough without having to worry about the issues OBs bring.

They have a map kind of thing that shows where it should be.
I am strongly considering, just to shut the "what ifs" up in my mind. Even if I could find cheaper for better, I will feel confident that I bought exactly what I wanted.

I just got the front three and it was $119x. The last thre items total about $800. I can do 5.1 and save ~$250. I won't get getting those for a while though.

I'd break in what you got before I was firm on what else I need. I mean who knows until you put it int he specific room that will be used.

Indeed.

The way I understand these fronts are supposed to be great about encompassing one in sound. I am not 100% certain. I am taking this project slow

You can have a stage that's too wide :) Unless you like listening to Diana Krall with a five-foot mouth :D

Which is an interesting visual in itself...

I like my HT sub just fine.

If deman can build dipoles, I'd be down.

I know this sounds stupid and petty, but if i'm going to spend that much time and money doing a project i'm going to go with a solid driver that is atleast using a cast basket.

Peoples time is often the most expensive part of the build, not the parts.

I think people overuse "budget". Sometimes it's better to go with the best part to begin.

I've always wanted to make some diy Legacy Fusions, or better buy a pair of them.

Legacy always advertised a shit ton in Stereo Review and Audio. Also always had snippets from Stereophile or Sensible Sound in their ads too.

I'm thinking they need a few more 'ways' in that speaker.

I am trying to find a DIY kit that involves peerless drivers vs. that dipole. Turns out a normal bookshelf type works better for what I am wanting to do.

also seems like an interesting choice...just because of its versatililty.

I hate 'surround' speakers.

bluecar
03-04-2009, 04:11 PM
Cuz you does not like HT?

I am not real enough to just rock 3 channels.

If I could sell this reciever, I just might do the processor + channel amp thing. Actually, that would be pretty neat.

I need like a dead head HU for a house....but JimJ said you can't find one with a radio, CD, etc and also dead head.

You do need better questions...

I'm just fuzzy on what you are trying to do. Typically however I've found bookshelf speakers to be better for surround than the 'surround' speakers. Most dedicated surround speakers are designed to be mounted directly on a wall in specific positions to work properly. Personally I'm a fan of 3.1. I had 5.1 and went to 3.1 and never looked back.

bluecar
03-04-2009, 10:47 PM
Well, to be honest, I don't know either.

On one hand, I like the surround sound during certain movies. However, it is obtrusive and hard to get right.

On the other hand, I like the effects that surround sound offers.

The thing about that energy speaker I posted is that it has 3 options; dipole, bipole, and direct radiating...so I can test which one sounds the best.

I feel like I went the wrong way if I wanted 3.1. It would be hard to undo what I have...which is tilted toward 5.1.
