I've been using Firefox since version 1.0. I really like it. The extra applications are great. I mean, I have the weather at the bottom right of the page, as well as an e-mail notifier that updates every 5 minutes. Another thing I really love about Firefox, while it being petty, you can close multiple tabs, and they will save the tabs, if you want. Then, open it up and all the tabs you previously had open will open up again. This is great for people who shut down their PCs at night. Although, it has been crashing a lot.
I just downloaded Google Chrome, it's a very simple design, that kind of takes a whole "Take up the entire screen" kind of deal with the lack of a real top bar, as well as the lack of the "File, Edit, View... etc" bar. It looks cool. It's just lacking a lot of stuff that isn't necessary. But, it makes my life easier. I would definitely use it if it had an e-mail notifier. Other wise, I'd forget to check my e-mail all together. There are a bunch of awesome features, such as the incognito mode (which doesn't leave a trace of the web sites you visit in that window on your computer. Great for t3h pr0n.), the anti-crash feature which makes it so every tab is it's own application within the main program. Thus, if one crashes, the whole program doesn't crash which is FTW if you're doing something important.

I think the two things that are gunna make me not use Chrome is the fact that it doesn't save multiple tabs if you close, and the lack of an e-mail notifier. If they add it later, I will probably use it.

Thoughts?

Chrome.

Firefox just pissed me off with the memory leak issues.

Firefox > Chrome > Opera

I think Chrome could be the best if they polish it up on the new release. There are still a couple of sites I cannot access with Chrome. However, they aren't sites most people frequent. I like the basic form of it though, and the homepage with the most frequented websites is pretty cool IMO.

I don't know if it's just my version of Google Chrome but whenever I get 2 week's in my history I have to clear it or any site I visit that isn't already in history will cause it to crash. Other then that Chrome is by far my favorite.

I've been using Chrome for a while now, and so far I'm impressed. I went from Firefox and when it upgraded to 3.0.6 it was causing both my computers to freeze. Chrome isn't perfect, but it does it's job well.

I've been using Chrome since it came out. Give it a few weeks, you will never go back. Just a more stable browser. If you have a sluggish system though (older) stick with firefox as it handles the memory management much better than chrome. Hrm, not that Chrome does a bad job, it actually does better, but it gives each tab its own (making it hella faster) but using more resources. For my systems I love it. On slower machines, its noticeable.

I like the auto update features, the password saving (just a bit different than explorer and firefox to me). When I have to load explorer for anything (I have to use outlook web access from time to time and it really only works on explorer) I get pissy and beat my wife because its so damn slow and I have some spare time.

I have a good machine... but Firefox never crashes for me. Ever. I don't notice any system lagging due to FF. The only game I ever had to close Firefox to play was for Grand Theft Auto 4, which was already a unstable and resource hungry game.

I personally just think the weather / e-mail notifier can't be beaten by Chrome.

I think your misreading what I'm saying. Google would be the one to lag your system, not firefox. If your already happy with firefox, like the weather email notifier, why even consider changing? They both take you to the same internet.

I think you have it backwards. Its Opera>Chrome>Firefox

While Firefox has tons of features to be added on, making it the "go to" application for most duties, it is still full of bloat. It is packaged with viruses due to its third-party app design platform. It also lacks speed. Opera is far more advanced than Firefox. I already has all of the important applications built right in. As it becomes more popular, more websites are adapting to its rendering format. Look who the newer browsers are copying. Tabbed pages, and speed dial didn't come from Firefox.

THE INTERNET IS A SERIES OF TOOBZ!

I was just trying to see what all the hype was about. Everyone was living by Chrome. But it's nothing spelcial to me. :wat:

That's like the people who change to DVORAK keyboards and are stoked when they're up to the same WPM as they were on a standard keyboard...

Instead of "qwert" keyboard, they make a "dvorak" keyboard, which is supposed to arrange the letters by the most common to least common. It's supposed to make you type incredibly fast. but a lot of people find it hard to even type the same rate with dvorak as they did with the qwert set-up.

Same problem with 64-bit. No one's producing the coding for it, so no one is switching to it. Even though it's superior for certain people. It's all in the same sleeve imo

But that's the thing, people are producing code for Opera. It's already a very capable browser. I can already browse practically any website. They are only improving it and making more websites available. Currently its right there with Firefox in terms of compatibility. Its just faster.

:fp:

opera has crashed on 4/5 machines I have used and firefox 3 is much faster. also, I quit running anti-spyware and viral apps about 6 months ago after installing FF3 and have had 0 issues.

O.P. I did not use chrome after it's first release as it had too many problems and FF3 has everything I need. Maybe I should go back and try it again?

Eh?

64-bit surpasses the 3.25gb ceiling. There is a windows that uses it, and any of the high end software that I can think of also supports it. Sure, there is no real commercial software readily available, but who needs more than 3.25 for a single app at home?

Well, those computers that are running 64 bit are only confined to those small set of programs. No real home PC needs it. But, it'd be nice. A game that uses the 64 bit to it's full potential would be amazing. Far better than Cryshit.

You haven't used X64 yet have you? It is backwards compatible. Runs the 32-bit apps in the X-32 folder and runs others in the 64-bit.

I do agree that a game running 64-bit would be awesome. You could have HUGE maps.

Guessing XP-64 bit?

Good article about security and different browsers.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/google-chrome-security,2271.html

Cliffs for those that are not interested. Chrome is advanced in its ability to multi-process and keep things secure (far better than anything else) but the designers also use firefox and opera (safari and IE too, but to a lesser extent).

They mention Chrome2 beta *drool*. Can't wait. I haven't been back to IE in many O months now. When I do have to load it (winupdates) I get sooooo pissed, fucking so slow.

Ok, I didn't have to wait very long..I am now running the dev version of Chrome 2. No issues so far. VERY fast.
