What kind of permissions does it require to install? I just installed it on my work computer with only user permissions...

That's odd.

Need admin rights. Plus it sucks.

I just think it's strange that the install circumvents admin rights.

Reminds me of when I had to install Flash for FF on my work computer without admin privileges. Easy workaround but kinda gay nonetheless.

What's funny is that I was also able to install the Flash plugin from within the browser, but I can't install Java?

Yet it runs one Java encoded site from our company, but won't run another. The one it won't run has been circumvented by using the IE Tab extension which starts the IE Java plugin.

My conspiracy theory behind this is that our IT department may be migrating us into the Google environment since Microsoft announced that it will no longer be supporting IE 6 which is what we currently have now. Pending IE 9 requires major hardware changes which would cost the company a great deal. The easiest solution is to increase security while going with a free solution.

In other words, they may have lifted the restriction on that particular application for testing and designing purposes.

It is definitely a relief from using slow ass IE 6. I still have to use it though as there is one site where my security profile exceeds Chrome. I tried using it in IE Tab Classic, and got it to load but cannot do anything with it without it crashing.
