View Full Version : Allow me to jerk you off! Palm up for sale!

http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/11/bloomberg-palm-is-up-for-sale/

Bloomberg just reported that Palm is putting itself up for sale and that offers will potentially come in this week. That's pretty wild news, considering CEO Jon Rubinstein was adamant just a few days ago that Palm had a plan to get profitable -- even while his company's stock price went on a buyout-rumor fueled rollercoaster. Bloomberg says that Palm's already retained Goldman Sachs and Qatalyst Partners to find a buyer, with HTC (yes!) and Lenovo both expressing interest -- and Dell's apparently already taken a pass. Naturally none of these parties are saying anything on the record -- we just pinged Palm and they declined comment -- but if this is true, things are about to get wild, and fast.

If HTC ends up buying Palm, Apple will have to retract every lawsuit or feel the wrath.

Palm phones suck asshole (at least the ones I've had).

HTC's offerings that I've had suck cock too...this may all be contributed to the fact that Sprint aims to get the worst phones ever created. I'm sure HTC's devices on other networks are better than what they give Sprint.

Randy Savage
04-12-2010, 09:43 AM
I usually buy unlocked phones to begin with.. my HTC Tilt on AT&T was noms.. had a couple other HTC models & LOVED them. Never been on Spring though.

I'm not sure how unlocked phones work, but I believe they're usually GSM phones and Sprint is CDMA.

I've had the Mogul and Touch by HTC, they were both crappy phones. I've had Palm's Centro and Treo 800W, both suck big moosecock as well.

Currently have the 800w and it makes me feel like an AIDS patient.

I do agree that Sprint coverage is shaky at best. I still really like the Pre. Each upgrade makes it better and better.

Randy Savage
04-12-2010, 09:52 AM
LOL yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Verizon & Sprint are CDMA while unlockable phones that accept sim cars are GSM.

You're going the wrong direction with HTC, look for functionality > pretty. HTC, just like JL Audio, will make their money on the smaller, shittier items.. which you've bought. :p

I don't pay for shit.

One good thing about Sprint is if you get the right person, you can get a free phone.

I agree to an extent. Apple's market is based solely on their closed-software which "seems" to make their products superior to an average user. If that was my target audience I doubt I would jump on the bandwagon.

I don't think Apple would have a spot in the marketplace if they played by the same rules as everyone else. What's good for Apple is bad for the consumer, but the average Apple buyer doesn't care. I'm a gadget freak and own 2 iPhones, yet I haven't sync'd either one of them in months and could care less about any updates. I have also skipped jailbreaking them this time around because it seems almost pointless anymore. I would consider myself the average Apple user in that sense. Would all that stuff make my phones better? Yes. But I don' really "need" it so I really don't care. Any other piece of hardware or software and I'd be all over it in an attempt to make it better.

In a delusional sense it's a win-win for the Apple consumer and the Apple shareholders.

Once again, no. If a device I sell has shitty battery life and I removed the option for the consumer to easily swap it out I highly doubt I would introduce options to magnify the problem.

Your logic on this is flawed. It wouldn't be productive for Apple to introduce these options just so magazines and bloggers could post about their batteries lasting less than 2 hours. Sales would drop drastically.

Regardless on your take of their hardware and software, you can't knock Apple for choosing the smartest alternative which is to not include these options in their releases.

Couldnt that be said about anything, ever made? Not just software, but for hardware as well? People are always out to modify things to their own liking. Car manufacturers have made it nearly impossible to add aftermarket stereos just like phone manufacturers have made it harder to change their UI or OS...
I too, want an incredible.

Still, apple is too much set in the "do only as we tell you to do". I get so sick of that shit. They need to leave those options open and allow users to control it.
See above statement. While I agree with what you said, I also think that they have done a good job of knowing what their device(s) are capable of, and NOT allowing them to do something that they were not comfortable with them being able to do stabely (just like flash on android, it is STILL buggy as hell, when you can get it to work... Also just like the touchscreens on the HTC devices, NONE of them are as accurate as the iphones touch screen. Just like copy/paste, iphone has hands down the best method for doing so. etc etc etc.).

There are a few other circumstances outside of this, but for the most part, I think that at the core of it, they are focused on keeping the OS and usability of the device a key concept, and hold that over the device being able to do a bunch of useless shit that is going to make the whole device buggy/uselss. And also, there is some business sense that goes into it as well. And this is not to say that android apps will make an android device buggy or useless. But I have even noticed the difference after the 3gs came out, with my 3g iphone, some of the apps cause the device to be a little slow/buggy.

The newer device with more memory is probably better suited for running some of the apps. Maybe that will be an issue down the line, if they start throttling what apps can do. But that would be an issue with any phone/computer/device, not just an apple device.
