I get emails from eDuh for whatever reason. I guess I signed up. But, I normally just skim them, laugh, and delete. But I found this one interesting... it was an advertisement for "UBAR CHEEP HT SUBZ"
So, I was like, "I'll check 'em out. See what the big fuss is about."

They're selling one for $600 or $650, not too sure since their website is poorly designed...
I figured it's their e5.12 driver. (Which they're selling for $250.), they claim the amp that comes with it is a LT.300, which is $225...

So, theoretically, for about $100 dollars less, you can build their "UBAR CHEEP" HT enclosures... :fp:

But for $600 bucks I'd rather build something better from a reputable company.

Simple business tactic. Price your SHIT high and give the impression that it is high end. I'm actually a fan of their drivers (I have had O's for some time) but from what I have read (besides Ed fanboys) the HT stuff is crap.

I thought that they went under a long time ago...

Honestly, you are way off in criticizing them for their price. Consider the materials, assembly, finishing, and port. It's not a DIY product; why would you expect a DIY price?

If anything, mass production should allow for LOWER prices. DIY would be at the mercy of single piece buys.

$600 for a preassembled sub is very much on the cheap end.

When I paid $400 for my Rava a couple years ago, that was about the cheapest decent thing out there for that price. You won't touch anything SVS or REL in that bracket...

I don't know. I just kind of do? Looking at the driver, it has pretty decent specs, so I'm not bashing it. I just think it's kind of a weird price.

Apparently.

Those are some of the highest rated HT subs currently made. JL Audio of all companies too...they may be pricey but they have one hell of an engineering and design team.

Yeah, good HT subs aren't cheap. I paid $1000 a few years back for my B&W ASW 800, and that was a good deal back then.

JL HT subs are very impressive(and expensive). I'm not a JL car audio fan(it's ok, but not my style), but their home audio is a whole different ball game.

u can, if you can design a box with variable tuning, a 12 or 15 sub and a plate amp that does 500watts or maybe 1000 watts, but shoot for 500 since you won't hear an audible difference between that 850 watts

I meant the actual products, not the performance :)

The issue isn't the driver/amplifier combo, what drives the price up is the labor and overhead-intensive item...the cabinet. Good woodworking is very time consuming, and we pay for that in pre-built subs.

my dad has these tube amps made by lamm that he got for over 23k each to run his fronts and sides.

anyways OP 600 bucks is UBERR cheap for a solid powered home audio sub that will work well in a small/lil sized environment yo
home audio is one of those industries that there is alot of snake oil capitalism in, but at the same time, enthusiasts get so critical through training their ears over the years, that it takes alot of money to satisfy someone whose been into audiophile HT for a while.

btw those gotham and fathom JL's are SEXY AS HELL in person

It was close to $500 for my DIY 15" from PE. That price doesn't seem too out of lne
