So my computer has been randomly lagging out, slowing way down & at times, not responding at all for about a minute or so at a time.

Is there any type of diagnostic testing I can do to find the issue?

The RAID has either broken, corrupted or one of the drives died. You need to go into the RAID utility and check to see what the status of the ARRAY is.

I think you mean AIDS, not RAID.

Also UBUNTU is most likely not seeing the drive properly.

I think he is running a RAID which means more than one drive running together for either redundancy or speed. If he is going for speed (which isn't smart, but is done) and one of the drives has stopped functioning. Guess what just happened to HALF of his data?

oh, i get it. one of his drive might be fuxord thus fuxoring the whole raid set up.

Going into the RAID tools will let him see what the RAID status currently is (active, faulted, etc)

You mean all of my data.

I was running in RAID 0 for speed, learned my lesson. Lost ~600GB of music & another 100ish in movies.. all my pictures & shit were backed up on an older external.

When did I hype it up? ..or call it the ultimate machine?

You're a tard, bro. Drives die all the time. It died because of the settings that were applied not because of the drive quality. User error, not hardware.

Said functional. Was not functional. One hard drive went. I'm now running on a 250GB w/Ubuntu just as a temporary thing until I can afford new drives. One of the 500GB is still fine though. RAID was just broken.

That still doesn't say anything. Ya he was bitching about price, but he has yet to make it clear on it being a deal breaker bro.

I am happy you bought your for 550, but I find that useless for anyone to buy the absolute cheapest, just as much as it is to buy the absolute best. I like to purchase in the curve for best bang for buck. Go to new and you are just spending money for negligible gain, buy too cheap and you will be buying again sooner than you may think.

To each their own and you are happy with it. I just wouldn't personally recommend your setup.

We'll see then. Been running since the day I assembled it, rebooted once or twice.. no issues.

I should have clarified. When I said half your data I meant like this

HD1 Y U D T
HD2 O R A A

Half is gone but without that half all is lost. RAID is GREAT, if your going to do it, go RAID 5 though. You will never lose anything. Okay, you "could" but it is so damn unlikely.

Kudos for keeping the real important stuff elsewhere though :)

I have an extensive library of MP3. If you had a large external, I could always rebuild your mp3 collection for you. I have about 115,000 or so songs.

Yar. MP3s aren't THAT big of a deal. I guess I also have a lot of music <mid 2009 on my old external HDD.. but eh, I'd almost rather start from scratch. Gives me a reason to get on teh computers again.
