I personally like to set my own guest network up and just add myself, make the network invisible and just use that.

Of course, I don't use high bandwidth on borrowed accounts. I do it when I need a backup.

Log into borrowed network

go to browser type int Http://192.168.0.1 or Http://192.168.1.0 google the name of the router (says it on the mainpage) for default username password. After logging in check to see if the model has a guest wifi setup. If it does, all you have to do is create the guest wifi and after setting it up make the SSID invisible (just a check box). Create a password for this account that is strong and reboot the router.

You can always statically assign your mac address an IP too. Just depends on the model of the router. Tell me the model, I'll tell you the easiest way.

Download BT3 and get a wireless adapter that will work with the program. it's a long process, search on Google for "Cracking wep for beginners"

It's four homes on our Block and all use 2wire modems from att, I happen to one day go out on the patio with my laptop and connect to the wrong one using 0123456789 as the default code for MY modem and it logged into my neighbors 2wire modem. so sometimes you can try default passwords.

Unless you have an uber hacker, you should be fine. I personally use WPA2-AES, but it really doesn't matter THAT much.

You could also connect via mac addresses too. So they would have to have the password AND a mac address that is in the table.
