Been thinking about getting one for a while and now i have the cash to do it. I know there are a couple people on this site that have them. I want something that is easy to use but i dont want a point and shoot. I am looking at something in the $500-1000 range. I looked around for a couple of minutes and i found this...i want either a cannon or a nikon.
Opinions on this? Cannon EOS Rebel T1i (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Canon+-+EOS+Digital+Rebel+T1i+15.1-Megapixel+Digital+SLR+Camera+-+Black/9318954.p?skuId=9318954&id=1218084392413)

Enough that I think it warrants the upgrade, but then again I factor in the HD shooting capabilities and give it quite a bit of weight.

I'm pretty sure that rebel is the exact camera my girlfriend just got for her birthday, very nice camera.

The Pen? Looks like a point and shoot with interchangeable lenses and a couple extra features. I wouldn't buy an olympus anyways just personal preference

You think I could find it local for the same price or are they a lot cheaper online?

Possibly at a Best Buy or something but you will almost never find accessories cheaper at a local store.

Nobody had the rebel t2I in stock. It is backordered everywhere. I need one by next week so I got the cannon eos rebel t1i. That's probably enough for me anyways.

Nice camera either way. You need to study up on ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, etc. Use the camera right bro.

get a cawnon rebel.
d3s or go home.
This.
I'll get into DSLRs when the full frames come down in price...I think it's nuts to spend a lot on a fast 20mm or 25mm only to have the camera fuck up your focal length...

Wikipedia on the items I mentioned. Also, it's digital so set it to full manual and test different settings.

I have been. I get the concept behind everything I just need to know hot to implement it better. I like the fact that it has the "basic" modes where it is basically a point and shoot. I probably won't use them that often but it is nice to have.

It seems like a simple concept but start out learning how to control motion blur. Find a fountain or something of the like and try to take a picture so that the water turns out blurry as if it's flowing; then try to take another picture where every droplet is in focus and it looks like time just stopped the water. That will teach you a lot about how to balance aperture with shutter speed.
