So I'm thinking of selling my Stratus and getting a new (newer) car. I want to spend between 15 and 17 has to be a 2007 or better with less than 30k miles.

I'm looking at a Lancer GTS right now. I'm open to ideas though. I will be buying in June/July (I like to do some serious research beforehand (I'm a buyer, it just works this way LOL)

so you're looking for a sporty compact? For 17k and less than 30k miles you could find a 2007 subaru WRX for that price range. Or a newer subaru impreza non-wrx.

Thanks, sorry for not putting this.

This will be a long term car (I usually buy and keep for at least 4-5 years) I want a bit of power, but honestly nothing compares to my bikes so I don't need a sports car. I would like 25mpg highway or better 4 door. My son will occasionally be in this car.

Thanks for the links! I was actually just at the Columbus auto show and although I know the G8 has TONS of power the trim and interior felt and looked very cheap. Everything rattled around.

Shit, should have multi-quoted. I'll look into this. I've thought about WRX's. How are they for reliability and such? I know they have a decent amount of power.

Have you owned one?

Edit: Seems like for the price, I'm better off getting a brand new Lancer. Not as much power, but about the same features for much less money.

Lancer doesn't have AWD ;) If you're set on a new car I guess the Lancer would suit you quite nicely. Subarus are very reliable, they last for a long long time. I've never been a fan of Mitsubishi, but the new Lancer's are kinda catchy.

GLI would be fun

mazda 6 might be worth a look

what are lightly used maximas going for these days?

Altima SE-R would be sick if you found an 05 with low miles.

Yes its a Vdub. You can cross that out. I doubt you'll be able to find one in your price range.

Same for the Maxima. I've seen the 07+ Maxima go for under 17k but not with the low mileage you want. But I'm sure you may be able to talk a dealer down on the price.

I may be wrong but I think they stopped the SE-R in 06 so thats out too. The 07+ altimas have more power than the SE-R anyway so you would probably be better off with just getting one of those.

Oh, wait. I'm sorry. WAS gay.

Also, my friend has an Altima (brand new) and it drives really nice and is pretty roomy. If you want a 4 door, get the Maxima. Same thing, just 4 doors. Her sister has a Mazda 6, and that, too, is a good choice. Also check up on VW's. Jettas or Passats.

I actually thought that the Maxima == 4 Door Altima. But, I guess I had my info wrong. The Altima Coupe is the shit, though. It has a pretty nice bass response off the stock system. But, at a certain point it starts to distort the highs. Full-range drivers == FTL.

you are an idiot. GLI is the sportier trim level on a jetta. you can find one in your price range, or just look for a 2.0T jetta. (4 cylinder turbo)

get an 05 or 06 maxima easily in your price range with hella options. my dad has a 2005 maxima SE with the 350Z wheels and it is quick and comfortable. he loves it.

SE-R did stop, however it is way more sporty than current altimas with way more style, and is one year really a deal breaker?

all of the cars i listed are at least worth checking out. it would be smart to see all options.

I'm sorry I thought the GLI was a new car from VW.

I was going off of what he said he wanted so why recommend an 05 or 06?

He asked for specific things. I don't see why people always try to throw in something else?

Well here we go LOL....always interesting to see my initial thought and timeframes and where I end up.

Car I'm going to look at today, 2009 Lancer GTS, 0 miles total spend...wait for it...wait for it....17,500 ;) oh yeah, 0.0% APR at that.

So, i'm planning to go new and I get invoice pricing due to being a member of a certain group through work (if you are around mid-ohio and need a car, check with me first and I can get you invoice pricing at most places on new cars)

Question is, what do I need to be negotiating on? At this point, i'm sorta at a loss. I've never bought a new car as it doesn't really prove to be a financially smart decision. This time it does. Do I need to negotiate anything? I mean, car is going to be invoice priced already and I get the loan with no APR. Has to be something for me to press for? Maintenance maybe, but of course it hast he warranty. Anyone have tricks for free oil changes etc?

Maybe there is an option you want, like tinted windows. I doubt they are going to give you much after all those other discounts.

I hate buying cars. I had exactly what I wanted in mind when I bought my Honda, and it was exactly what I wanted. However, I'm not sure that my demands were strict enough for the dealership. Under 200 bucks a month, under 80K miles, 35+ MPG, 5 speed, and it had to be a Honda or a Toyota. I walked into the dealership with those requirements, and I walked out with a new car. So, either my demands were too light, or the dealership really worked to get me what I wanted. Either way, I'm happy.

Personally, I think you are getting a helluva deal, and there's probably not much more you could get out of them. Tinted windows would be a big plus. Free oil changes are somewhat hard to get if they are not offering it already, but maybe ask for a years worth. That would equate to 3-5 changes, depending on your useage of the new car. I would at least ask, the worst they could say is no. Never hurts to try.

Think about a career as a buyer. That is basically our motto. Ask for the world, you either a. get all or some of it or get nothing at all.

Changing clothes and off to the dealership.

Well transaction is done. 2009 Lancer GTS CVT but no navi (seemed like one or the other) did get the upgraded stereo system with it. They were asking 22 ish (bit over) I got tad over what I expected on the trade-in, then with 0.0 apr and the invoiced price. Ended up 5 bucks a month more than the 2008 would have cost, but I have a full warranty (08 had 3,600 or 3,800 I believe miles).

I'll get some pics up soon. Gotta tint the windows.

Yeah, I wanted Navi, but it was either CVT or Navi (the ones with Navi there had manual). Wife made a solid point on it. The truck has navigation and anytime we travel where I would need navi, it would be in the truck. Wasn't worth waiting for one.

True on the audio, I will be ripping some of it out (sub sucks balls LOL) but I don't mind the stereo as its bluetooth and volume sirius etc all in the steering wheel.

Yep, brand new. They've been having a hard time selling evos around here. A lot of the dearlerships still have brand new 08s sitting on there lots. And one of the biggest Mitsu dealerships in the area closed so they sent the inventory to their other dealers so they are really pushing them. It sounds like he still got a pretty average deal on that RA. The ones going for cheap here wouldn't have any of the goodies he has.

My situation is always different because distance doesn't matter.I say I can get X from Dallas for whatever price and they usually say "well transportation is costly" then I just counter with "He is the regional logistics manager for Schenkers" and they shut the fuck up :P ha ha ha.
