As Michael Vick (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Michael+Vick/) is released from prison and looks to pick up the pieces of his life, he's got a lot of financial trouble to deal with. If things go as Vick plans, however, he won't be in that pickle for long. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Vick has filed papers with a bankruptcy court where he claims he'll be raking in upwards of $10 million a season in the NFL (http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/falcons/stories/2009/03/29/michael_vick_bankruptcy.html).

Now, assuming Roger Goodell (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Roger+Goodell/) reinstates Vick, and a team is willing to roll the dice on a man who has an awful public image and hasn't played football for three years, how in God's name does he think he's getting $10 million a year?

Do you know who didn't make $10 million in 2008 (http://content.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/salaries/playersbyposition.aspx?pos=132)? Tom Brady (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Tom+Brady/). Drew Brees (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Drew+Brees/). Donovan McNabb (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Donovan+McNabb/). Kurt Warner (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Kurt+Warner/). Eli Manning (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Eli+Manning/). Philip Rivers (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Philip+Rivers/).

Yeah, the list goes on and on. The only quarterbacks who made eight figures in 2008 base salary were Peyton Manning (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Peyton+Manning/) and Brett Favre (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Brett+Favre/). Vick hasn't even had a quarterback rating north of 80 since 2002. Needless to say, Vick ain't making that much a season for the rest of his career.

The problem in this whole mess is Vick's planning.
The embattled Atlanta Falcons quarterback is hoping to earn as much as $10 million a year or more, according to court filings in his bankruptcy case. Under the plan he submitted to the court, Vick would keep the first $750,000 of his annual income over the next five years. After that, a percentage would go to his creditors based on a sliding scale.
Look, I know he got used to an upscale way of life his first time through the league, but things are different now. He's a convicted felon. He's older. He owes way too much money to different creditors. And he's planning on keeping $750,000 for himself every year? C'mon.

He's gonna have to swallow a bit more of his pride and "settle" for only about $200,000 a year. This would enable him to pay off his debts in a realistic and legal fashion, all the while maintaining an income most Americans will never reach. Can't someone talk some sense into him after all he's already been through? Making six figures is a very nice living.

Instead, he's thinking he gets eight figures? He's either delusional or lying to the courts. That's simply not happening. Here I was hoping prison straightened him out.

I love how well the NFL controls salaries. If it were the NBA, Vick would be back on the court already making $20 million.

Good talent but what a way to waste a career.

Vick should have just been a running back. He almost always performed poorly throwing, it was just the running no one could stop. Then they would worry about him running then he might be able to throw well

Him and his brother seem to have a great knack for that.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/draft-2009/04/28/vick.ap/index.htmlALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Michael Vick has a place on a minor league football team if he can get reinstated by the NFL.

The Albany Firebirds, an arenafootball2 franchise, have offered the 28-year-old quarterback a one-year contract at the league standard: $200 a week plus a $50 bonus for a win.

Vick quarterbacked the Atlanta Falcons for six seasons before being convicted of bankrolling an interstate dog fighting business.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has not said if he will lift Vick's suspension after he completes a 23-month prison sentence. Vick goes from federal prison to home confinement next month.

The Firebirds' contract offer requires that Vick donate $100,000 to a local humane society.

A call to Vick's agent was not immediately returned.

Okay, what some of you are forgetting is the fact that he still has a household name. The fact that you are talking about him right now proves that. Marketing engineers can find away to make something positive out of it. Not to mention there are many teams that are begging for a win so bad, that they are willing to for go a bit of bad publicity to get it. He hasn't been gone for that long, and hasn't been out of practice. He is also still in shape. I think he has a chance at being picked up by someone. He may even get the 10 mil that he wants, but that may be stretching it.

This could have already been handled. I am a huge animal lover, but really for me it is the fact that people are talented at ONE thing and decide they are above everything and everyone else.

Guy deserves nothing.

Plenty other athletes that fucked up in the past didn't get asecond chance. The NFL is too lenient. If this was baseball, they wouldn't have even considered reinstatement. These bitches get paid shit tons of money to play a dream, no reason they can't keep a high moral road.
