make mdf mounts and buy 6.5"s. Though I know Hertz does make a 6x9 set, so i would check those out.

major difference between 6.5 and 6x9's?

bestbuy apparently has a shitty tool they let u enter ur truck and they will tell you if the speakers fit well im on the 6x9 speaker page and it says the apline fits but the others don't and they are all 6x9's...

I think it's more that the nicer speaker sets only come in 6.5, and 6.5 are definitely easier to resell if you decide to.

you should be able to make them fit somehow. i have hertz hsk 6.5"s in my tribute (which is an escape) so i would imagine it wouldnt be hard to fit something similar in your explorer. just take out the factory speakers and measure the mounting depth and whatnot to make sure what you get will fit.

yeah havn't bought speakers in years... and just bought this explorer but figured it was 6x9 and 6.5 in the back.. wasn't gonna worry about replacing the very back speakers.. can you buy the mounts at a car audio shop or is it cheaper just to buy them online?

Yeah they're really easy to make, just do it yourself. the ones you buy online are mostly plastic and shit, mdf ftw

explorers use 5x7(6x8) speakers front and rear. image dynamics supposedly makes a very good 6x9 set though (xs69) with the mid giving similar output to an 8" mid.

no experience here though, just what ive read.
