I still have 4 gigs to cut out of my library before it will fit on my phone.
I've been at this for a month straight.
I'm starting to regret not listening to music when I got my iPhone, thus opting for the 8gig instead of the 16gig.

As for me, I just put in the shit I listen to all the time. I'd need approximately 8 16gig iPhones to fit my library in... but I only have an 8. :crap:
I have Slightly Stoopid, Sublime, The Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 Soundtrack (WHICH IS TIGHT WORK), A Tribe Called Quest, and a few other smaller play lists. It works out well for me, IMO. I still actually have 2 gigs left. :laugh:
My advice is, instead of trying to put all the stuff in your library. Just put everything in individually. (I.E. Manually Manage music, and just think to yourself, "I might listen to this on a daily basis." And put it in... then once a week, or month, or whenever, go through the list and see what you aren't listening to, delete, add something you want. Repeat. I've done this since the beginning of my reign of MP3 players. My library has always been bigger than how much my MP3 player could hold.)

Do yourself a favor, download the pandora app. Unlimited streaming music OTA is teh shit.

Nope, it streams music OTA to yoru phone. You can play songs that are not on your iphone.
Go to pandora.com and play with it. It is the same thing, except for your phone.

I dont know about replacing itunes... The nice people at apple work hard on trapping you with their products. I personally dont have any issues with it (yet), But I pretty much just use it to transfer musics to my iphone and ipod. Plus, as far as I know you are still going to have to use itunes to update your phones software :crap: , And there is a big update on the way that should add lots of much needed (read: blatantly ignored/forgotten) features.

Yea I know, but I wasn't done yet. I am now backing up on the daily.
I dont really bother with playlist. I dont use my itunes for much at all.
But I will once I can afford an airport and can use my phone with the remote app to control whole house audio...

The remote app.
You leave itunes open on your computer, connect your phone to the same wifi as your computer, launch the remote app (DO NOT have your phone connected to the usb while trying to do this... It wont work.) go to your computer and you should have an icon on the left side that says "...'s ipod", click that, put in the 4 digit code that is displayed on your phone, and BOOM!! You have access to your whole library, all playlist, even volume control for your itunes account, and it streams it all back to your airport to go throughout your house :)
I set this up for my dad at my parents house, it is bad ass. With the new itunes guests can even hop onto the wifi and paruse all of their library and make requests, which dad can either approve or deny. It is awesome, we had to set up wireless range extneders so he can control it out on the dock and all over the property.

Iphone can do some freaking bad ass shit that most people dont realize... The remote app and the airport alone sold my dad on the ipod touch.
Your parents live on the water? That is pretty damn bad ass... My parents have some friends that have a large sailboat and do the same thing. Theirs is apparently bad ass as hell... They set the GPS on where they want to go, and spend the day getting drunk while the boat gets them there.

In picture one you can see the radar and GPS and all that shit.
In picture two if you look real close, you can see an hand drawing of ma house.
In picture three you can see my awesome iPhone enjoying the trip. I was able to connect to some British cable or some shit down there.
I commend your parents baller status. I hope for both of our sakes, it is genetic.
