I would not be the least bit surprised if the Saints trade back. Maybe with the Giants who could take Maclin.

If you were to guess, how many QB's have been drafted in the 1st round that were really worth that pick in the last 20 years?

I'll have to double-check the number, but we were looking it up pre-draft and there have really only been a handful of quarterbacks that have proven to be worth a pick in the 1st round. To guarantee that amount of money to any QB who hasn't started a game is a bit ridiculous, I think.

So we'll get to see another year of a team that can't run the ball and can't play defense. Just setting Stafford up to fail, and totally ruin his playing confidence.

"CB Malcolm Jenkins (selected 14th overall by New Orleans)

Associate editor Dan Parr: Jenkins is the piece the Saints have missed for the past two seasons as their defense muddled through mediocrity, leading the team to a 15-17 record and a two-year playoff drought, even while its offense thrived. He’s far from the first round’s flashiest or most exciting pick, but none of the other 31 choices are in a better position to turn a team from playoff outsider to contender in Year One, and for that reason, Jenkins will make the biggest impact of all the 2009 first-rounders. He doesn’t come with the character and durability concerns attached to WR Michael Crabtree, who will play in an offense without a big-armed, talented quarterback, and won’t be overshadowed like Aaron Curry will playing next to Lofa Tatupu and Leroy Hill at linebacker in Seattle. Jenkins is an unbridled star from the start. He brings a steady, reliable presence to the Saints’ secondary and has the versatility to play safety as well, should FS Darren Sharper show any signs of breaking down. With an aggressive, innovative defensive coordinator guiding him in Gregg Williams, Jenkins will be put in position to make big plays and force turnovers. Williams has a track record of making quarterbacks uncomfortable. He will put the Saints in position to pressure the passer with lots of different blitzes, which will lead to bad, forced throws, and those errant tosses should result in interceptions for Jenkins. The Saints finally have a corner with great size, long arms and strong hands who can match up with big, physical wide receivers like the Falcons’ Roddy White and Buccaneers’ Antonio Bryant, whose teams face New Orleans twice a year. In the past, head coach Sean Payton didn’t have an answer for White and Bryant. Jenkins should change that."

That says -- Jenkins makes Falcons obsolete.

LOL at the Raiders' second round pick:

Mitchell wasn't invited to the NFL Scouting Combine and wasn't mentioned as a player of note in the Ohio Pro Day report, though he pulled a hamstring during the event.

However,

He ran a 4.32-second 40-yard dash

I swear, if Al Davis ever watches Forrest Gump he would sign Tom Hanks in a second.

Seriously, the competition committee ought to do something about this situation. I don't even think this guy is lested on most rankings for safeties.

LMAO, I went over to a Raiders forum to see what they were saying. One thread was, "stp Freaking Out, the safety was a good pick." The poster went on to say that if they had not picked him the Bears were going to pick him 2 picks later. The source? The player himself.

5. Denver rookie head coach Josh McDaniels doesn't have a grasp on how to build a team. He signed three running backs in free agency and drafted another (Knowshon Moreno). And then he sent Denver's first-round choice in 2010 to Seattle for this year's 37th overall choice, which he used to pick cornerback Alphonso Smith. That's bizarre. Mike Shanahan must be laughing at that one.

If I was a GM I would never spend a 1st round pick on a QB. I would just wait until Denver groomed a pro bowler and make a trade for him.

The Broncos gave up five yards per carry last year. That was very close to being dead last in the league against the run.

So they've got to fix that. How do you do that? One of two ways: One, draft a front-seven defensive player who can stuff the run. Two, and this is the route that the Broncos chose, is to draft Knowshon Moreno, who is a good running back, so that good running back can't play for anyone else and carve up their defense.

Granted, that reasoning's a little more convoluted, but Josh McDaniels thinks outside the box. He's taken a very strange approach to the quarterback position, too.

Eagles, Packers, 49ers, Texans and Jets all had great drafts IMO

While I thought the Raiders, Cowboys, and Rey Maualuga had themselves a terrible draft day experience

Randy Savage
04-27-2009, 05:47 PM
I wish the Pats sucked it up and took Maualuga or Matthews, but Belichick was supposedly very high on Chung and made some nice moves to secure 3 2nd rounders in 2010.

Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, who saw his quarterback go undrafted and his star wide receiver slip down in the first round of the NFL draft, had plenty to say about both situations after the proceedings ended.

Leach's record-setting quarterback, Graham Harrell, wasn't among the 256 players picked in the seven rounds of the NFL draft. Meanwhile, Texas A&M's Stephen McGee, who didn't start much of his senior season, went in the fourth round (the 101st pick) to the Dallas Cowboys.

"I'm happy for Stephen McGee," Leach told The Dallas Morning News. "The Dallas Cowboys like him more than his coaches at A&M did."

McGee had a strong showing in front of NFL scouts at the combine. Harrell struggled at the Senior Bowl.

Leach, however, said the NFL has a long track record of picking its quarterbacks poorly. "The truth of the matter is that the NFL drafts quarterbacks notoriously bad," said Leach, according to the Morning News. "That's indisputable. ..."

Harrell won't necessarily be out of work for long. His agent, Chad Speck, said he will participate in the Browns' rookie minicamp.

Meanwhile, Leach said that Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini is to blame for former Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree falling to the 10th pick in the first round. Reports out of Cleveland said that the Browns didn't like Crabtree's attitude when he visited the team prior to the draft.

"Michael Crabtree has been more successful as a receiver than that guy as a coach at this point," Leach said of Mangini, according to media reports of a conference call. "Part of the reason is [Crabtree's] too shy to be like that."

Leach said Crabtree isn't a "diva."

"My definition of a diva is someone who's loud and self-absorbed," Leach told reporters. "Michael Crabtree is the furthest thing from loud that I've seen. ... Let's see how all those non-divas do up in Cleveland this year."lol
