Songs are no longer sold and bands just make money doing concerts and shit?

I'd imagine the RIAA and others will keep fighting and possibly get government backing at some point but in reality the man does not give a shit if some little faggot downloads a Lil' Wayne record.

I'd imagine the quality of music would also get better if they knew their next Veryron down payment may be at stake.

I also think donations would be a good idea, I'd be more than happy to throw a band $10 via Paypal after downloading a new album and having it be worth a shit, same for concerts... providing they don't try and rape me on tickets and do a good show I'll go out of my way to attend a concert.

First the big record labels will be abandoned. It is happening right now. I have a client that replaces the "Sonys" for a tenth of the cost and has some huge names on his roster.

I've never been to a concert in my life.

But I also don't give a shit about music.

I have nothing else to contribute to this thread.

There has never been a tour that has made money...

Most bands really don't get dick from the record deals anyway.

I was aware the record company screwed them but thought concerts and items sold at concerts (shirts and shit) were where they got the money from?

Not sure but a band had said that on TV or something at one point and I just figured that was the way they make the real money as they only get a very small portion of record sales.

He is either being sarasic or stupid. The tours make a shit ton of money for the artist.

I guess I should clarify what I mean.

Some artists might make money on the tour, but someone always ends up taking it in the ass. Trucking companies, sound companies, lights, stage, some venue, etc etc. There has never been a 'profitable' tour in the history of tours.

You're using that word incorrectly. Knock it off.

Tours are veruy profitable. Just because someone gets short changed, doesn't make it less profitable. That makes it more profitable.

Few tours are profitable as in everything goes to the black.

MOST tours are not as in everything goes to the red.

We're talking about the artist here. That's all that needs to be in the black. We don't care about the security guards.

I don't think you'll see studio work go away.

What will go away is any sense of a full "album" - because the people downloading things on Itunes don't listen to music that way.

A lot of artists couldn't put together a coherent 50 minutes of music anyway, so it's not the worst that could happen.

The RIAA/CRIA is trying to pull some bullshit up here in Canada and down in Australia right now, where they want to tax all fitness facilities for playing music in the gyms. They want $18.59/member per facility per year. For a good sized gym, they have anywhere from 1500-3000 members per club, so that adds up to $27,885-$55,770 for a club/year. That's absolute bullshit. And then, they want to charge $15/fitness class as well.

I'm on a committee right now that is fighting this tariff. It's in the courts right now, and probably will be for the next year or so. The shitty thing is, is if it goes through, it will be back dated to January 1st 2010, which could easily bankrupt a majority of the facilities around.

If it happens, I'm just going to say fuck it, and have most of my dj buddies make me some "un-copyrighted" music I can play in the background and tell them to fuck right off.

Sucks on a retro-active tax. There was no opportunity to avoid it.

I'll still buy LPs...CDs only if there's absolutely no other way and they're an artist I don't mind supporting.

don't believe you bro. let me back up first. define "taking it the ass" because just because they don't get paid much doesn't mean they're getting ripped off. they're prolly getting paid better than other places they could work

That is already law in the US. Has been forever. Everyone ignores it. lol

Artists make plenty of money off concerts. They don't make much of shit off cd sales. The label gets all the money from cd sales.

I admit I'm guilty of downloading music cause I'm not paying $15 for a cd with, at most, 2 good songs on it. If I feel the entire disc is worth purchasing then I'll get it.

In the fitness industry? News to me. The RIAA said it's plan was to try and get it passed in Canada and Australia first, and if they could, they were going to hit The U.S. next.

In all industries/places of profit. Like a retail store. If you walk into one, they should be either playing knock off music, or paying for the tunes. You should never hear a radio channel.
